I don't seem to understand why some of you guys are so upset. I understand that as fans we have a lot of love for Landry, but some of you need to open your eyes. You guys do realize that we are trading an unused prima donna and BACKUP power forward for a highly coveted STARTING shooting guard right? T-Mac was done and by simply letting him expire would not have helped us much. Landry, while good as a spark of offense off the bench, is an undersized PF who has only gotten double digit rebounding three times this season and despite his athleticism, is an average defender at best. On the other hand, even in an injury plagued season, averages about 20 PPG and 7 FTA with teams planning the defense around him. This means he has not only proved that he can score easily against double teams, but put opponents in foul trouble as well. Losing Carl Landry may hurt us potentially, but Martin is a great player who will benefit from Brooks dribble penetration and next year, the return of Yao. If you see this guy play, you will realize that in a system of offense that can potentially give tons of open looks, it looks favorable for Martin to get a ton of easy shots.
did you just call Landry a prima donna? I should just stop reading right here..but i'll be nice Landry an average defender? Sorry didn't realize Kevin Martin was a good defender. You sir are one of those guys that just looks at points. Whats his shooting percentage right now? Is he injury prone? Is he a good playmaker? fail post
I think about 50% of the people like the deal, and 50% hate it. Definetely mixed feelings from me, but I think this will benefit us more in the long run. Landry may be too expensive 2 years from now, and Martin is a decent star.
because in the NYK deal we got draft picks and gave up nothing. This we give up Mandry. WTF no more ScoLandry!!!!
And he is more than a backup PF. He is our closer. Our go-to guy. One of the league leaders in 4th quarter scoring. Constantly making big plays down the stretch. Tough as nails. He was probably the best player on this squad. And we trade him for an injury-prone scorer? It doesn't make sense. I know Morey has more tricks up his sleeve, he has to. I will reserve judgment til its finalized. But I still don't see why you add more injury-prone players to this squad.
One problem though, T-Mac will never play in a Rockets uniform again so having another "T-Mac" is a lot better than having an exiled T-Mac.
this guy is an idiot. Landry is one of the top most efficient players in the NBA, leader in the 4th, and points per posession among power forwards. Most importantly, he fit this team.
We need a scorer really bad and we need a SG, we got him now. The only reason why he can score like he can now is from RA's coaching, he'll probably click with the team fast. I don't know about defense though, I hope Battier can teach him.
Bc people are failing to realize that we can obtain another PF through the draft, free agency, or a sign & trade. It's been mentioned in the other thread that this upcoming draft is loaded with bigs. Also, we don't know what else might happen by the deadline.
also Morey is now a liar. He said Landry was going "to be a Rocket for a long time" that was last year!!!!!
- Obviously I was talking about T-Mac, but more obviously you failed read properly - Considering he is replacing a starting scorer who plays zero defense, it won't hurt us much defensively overall if at all - He is still shooting 40% and is the STARTING scorer for the team. Since you may have difficulty grasping what that means, it means he still scores 20 ppg at 40% when teams plan their defenses to contain him. I wonder how well Landry has done when double teamed? Fail reading on your part.
