The best athletic 7-footer yet? who else would be able to run the fastbreak better with francis and mobley? Give him a year or two to add weight and develope his game. He's 18, look at the upside. ------------------ oh
Cause he's going top 5 according to most scouts, and if we trade up that far, it'll definitely be for a big man. ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. Rockets need someone that can contribute in the next few years. Chandler may take 3-4 years before developing into a NBA stud. Then he may decide to head back to sunny California. He is also one of the more questionable HSers. He skipped out on the McDonalds game cuz he didn't want to hurt his stock (from an injury...or getting whooped by other HSers). Has he had a good workout yet? I hope he goes early so the Rockets won't have to decide whether to take him. ------------------
I agree with SlamN, the Rockets are not willing to wait on anyone to develop at the moment. Your right, Chandler is athletic and would run well with Franchise and Mobley in a couple of years, but the Rockets goal is to make the playoffs next year. I believe the only way we will make the playoffs and possibly go far is to have a solid man on the post, and Chandler isnt the answer for a few years. ------------------ "Hakeem Olajuwon dusted my butt", Shaq regarding Hakeem's play in the 95 Finals
If there is one thing about the Rockets history with trades and drafts it is that they lack patience. I am afraid that if management doesn't consider taking someone who needs several years to be an all-star then they won't ever be in a position to win a championship in the "Steve Francis Era". I think there is only one question that should determine if we should draft a player like Chandler (given the opportunity). Q: Are we going to win a championship NEXT year? A: NO. I don't think there are many people on this board that would disagree with that, so why not take a player that is going to need a little time to develop. We aren't going to miss out on a championship waiting for them to learn how to play.
I don't think Houston has a chance in the next 3-4 years. Why take a player that can help us now, when all that means is losing in 6 in the 2nd round? A team that's two best players are 24 and 26 is simply not going to be elite. I can't recall the last time a team with a young "franchise player" won the title. The closest were AI and the Orlando-years Shaq. But they both lost to more veteran teams. Even guys like Jordan, Shaq, Hakeem, and Thomas had to wait a while. ------------------ Newbiehad... coming to a bbs near you, October 31st.
With Tyson Chandler comes a lot questions. There are questions about his intensity and work ethic. People question his unwillingness to bang inside. What's his true position? Where are his back to the basket post moves? But I know one thing for sure. I have NEVER seen a 7'1" player run the court so well. A lot of people like to say so and so runs well for a big man. Tyson runs the court well for any position. The guy is a top notch athlete. In terms of athleticism, I think he's even another notch above Kwame Brown. But he is raw. Not to the degree of Desagna Diop, but he needs to work on a lot of things. Currently, Chandler suffers from the Jonathan Bender disease. A high school big man who should be dominating in the paint, but rather showcase his guard skills on the perimeter. To be a dominating force in the paint, the number one prerequisite is a certain ATTITUDE. Something Chandler currently lacks. (The Admiral is the lone exception.) Coincidentally, the player he most reminds me of is the Admiral. His height, his fluidity, his mobility, his athleticism, his lack of defined, go-to low post moves...all that brings an eerie resemblance to the 1st pick of the 87 draft. We'll see... ------------------
I thought that was the opposite thing with Chandler.... I had heard that Curry and Brown had more talent, but that Chandler had more passion? I guess I could be mistaken. ------------------ Newbiehad... coming to a bbs near you, October 31st.
Wait, Kenny Thomas hasn't WON a title yet! (I know, guys, it's a joke) ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
Tyson Chandler will be amazing. The guy can play 3 positions, is up to 255 right now, and I bet if you measured him right now you'd find he's 7'2. His ideal playing weight will be 270. He's been playing against top competition in the LA area the past 4 years, and don't be surprised to see this guy bring the ball up the court. Solid pick for anyone IMO. He'll find a way to contribute on the floor. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists
Haven't heard the news about Chandler gaining weight. Most of the sites are still listing him around 220-235 pounds (if you seen his pictures, they may be a bit generous). He is more of a KG type player than Shaq. So unless he can still run like a deer at 270, he's gonna want to keep his weight down. I think there are better options out there at the SF spot. Chandler should be a pass. ------------------
