Orlando-Houston Trade Accepted!!! Makes way too much sense for both teams. In addition, the numbers work out. Armstrong only has one year left on his contract -- we dump Moochie's (Tito takes over next year) Besides, Armstrong can hit the 3 better than moochie - and can't play any dumber. Declercq only has a year left on his contract -- he also played great defense on Shaq last night. Mike Miller/ Boki Najhbar will be as deadly as Peja & Turgalou for years to come. Orlando Recieves the center it needs to compete in the east. Cato may dominate out there. Kenny Thomas provides relief at the small forward (Grant Hill's ankle) and could replace Garrity as the starting power forward -- again, dominating the east -- playing for his contract. Houston trades: C Kelvin Cato (5.3 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 22.9 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (3.5 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.1 apg in 18.7 minutes) PF Kenny Thomas (8.9 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.8 apg in 28.4 minutes) Houston receives: PG Darrell Armstrong (9.7 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 4.3 apg in 31.6 minutes) C Andrew DeClercq (1.2 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 0.4 apg in 12.4 minutes) SG Mike Miller (14.0 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.1 apg in 32.4 minutes) Change in team outlook: +7.2 ppg, -4.1 rpg, and +3.3 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED G-S. Francis G-C. Mobley F-Mike Miller F-E. Griffin C-Y. Ming ------------------------ G-D. Armstrong (Tito 2004) G-J. Hawkins F-B. Najhbar F-M. Taylor C-A. Declercq -------------------------- 1.T. Morris 2.G. Rice (contact expires after next season -- P. Mickeal )
Cato ain't going anywhere. I wish we could have Mike Miller though. IMAGINE, Mike Miller at the 3 for us? Doing what Glen Rice does, but MUCH younger? Glen Rice, Kenny Thomas, Jason Collier and Moochie Norris for Mike Miller and a bad contract? I'd even throw in a first rounder. Magic need help at the 4 more than the 3, Rice can fill in at the 3 for Grant Hill temporarily, and Moochie Norris gives them a backup/starting PG that they need. Vaughn and Armstrong aren't getting it done. I think Armstrong will go to the Injured list with a shoulder injury soon. Help at the 3, 4, while shoring up the 1 and 5 and giving them a first rounder? I don't know if they want to mess with their team that much though. They get a BIG guy at the 5 who can shoot, depth at the 4, a starter in the East (KT), Moochie to replace Armstrong while he recovers, and take over for Vaughn later, and Rice to play minutes while Hill gets back into condition. THEN, there's a first rounder. Maybe they need the depth more than the insurance? Who knows. Don't give up Cato though. We need him to make the playoffs.
BTW, this is the Maryland terps that you guys absolutely ABUSED for proposing a Ron Artest trade. Now, we'd have to trade Mobley AND another player for Artest. AND ABOUT HIS SCORING, now look at his numbers. I'd find the thread and point fingers at those who disagreed when I said he's not an offensive liability, but I'm too lazy. He's actually a scorer for them right now, and they're leading the East. Props to Maryland Terps for proposing that trade so long ago.
Clutch will have your ass for making up fake, misleading headlines. If he doesn't beat you down I will.
You must give something to get something. In reality, this is Kelvin (fool's gold) Cato for Mike Miller. I'd do that in a heartbeat! Deal these guys now while their stock is high -- don't forget their bad contracts (to be backup NBA players) -- Cato makes more money than Steve and Cat Mobley -CRAZY! We need Miller to make the playoffs more than Cato. Cato has barley been in the lineup lately-- Yao is the real deal. Collier/Declerq could handle 10 min. per game w/ Eddie and Mo. Taylor sliding in as well. We need to surround Yao w/ 3 point shooters - just like Hakeem. DOUBLE TEAM/ ZONE BUSTERS!
Good looking out Sane! Hopefully we can move forward on Mike Miller before he becomes an all-star like Artest will be this year. I'm not one to say told you so -- BUT.... Blossoming Pacers Rose trade has turned into one-sided affair for Indiana By John Hollinger, CNNSI.com "Organizations win championships." When Jerry Krause uttered that now-infamous quote, he probably wasn't thinking of his organization winning a championship for somebody else. Yet that may be exactly what happens as a result of the trade Krause made last year to get Jalen Rose from the Indiana Pacers. In that deal, he gave up Brad Miller, Ron Artest and Ron Mercer. The trio filled Indiana's needs for a center, a wing defender, and a bench scorer and keyed the Pacers' club-record nine-game winning streak -- achieved with franchise icon Reggie Miller on the injured list -- that has Indiana sporting the league's second-best record at 10-2. In the middle, Brad Miller is averaging 15 points and nearly nine rebounds while shooting 83 percent at the line -- where he gets nearly seven attempts a game. He is on pace to play in his first All-Star Game come February, especially given the dearth of quality centers in the East. On the wings, Artest is as good a one-on-one defender as there is in the league, and blossomed at the offensive end this year. He's averaging a career-high 16.6 points and shooting a scalding 52 percent from the field, including 42 percent on 3-pointers. His defense hasn't let up, either, as he showed when he suffocated Orlando's Tracy McGrady Friday and held him 19 points below his league-leading average (31.8). Off the bench, Mercer has made important contributions as well, shooting a career-high 49.6 percent and averaging 11 points a night. He even fills in as a backup point guard most nights. In return, the Bulls got Jalen Rose, half a year of Travis Best (who has since signed with Miami) and a guy named Norm (Norm Richardson, to be exact, whose current address is unknown). At the time, the trade was sold as the Bulls getting the veteran star they needed to bring along their young players, but the results have been disappointing to say the least. While the three Pacers have been key contributors to one of the league's best teams, Rose has been, well, Jalen Rose. He's an above average, but hardly spectacular, scorer and passer (averaging 22 points and four assists) who is a liability defensively and on the glass. In fact, if Miller does make the All-Star team in February, he'll have one more appearance than Rose. But wait a minute; this trade was even worse than it sounds. First, there are the players' ages. Rose will be 30 in January and is good as he'll ever be, while Miller (26), Mercer (26) and Artest (23) all hold the promise of better things to come. Then there's the more important issue of contracts. Rose makes nearly as much as the three players for whom he was traded put together, and the Bulls have to pay him the maximum until 2005. The three Pacers have far more friendly deals, although Miller will be more expensive after his impending free agency this summer. Over the next two years, Rose's deal will likely prevent the Bulls from adding other free agents to improve the roster. Add it all up, and it looks like the Bulls helped Indiana a lot more than they helped themselves. In their effort to obtain a Rose, the Bulls overlooked the blooming talents they already had. They ended up giving up two players who were younger, making less and at least as good as Rose (Miller and Artest), and another quality reserve (Mercer). That goes a long way toward explaining why Indiana is 10-2 and Chicago is 4-10.
Mike Miller would fit this team so well it's almost scary. But there's no way we can afford to ship Cato. Now that the guy is motivated he is playing at an exceptionally high level. I'm not sure that the Magic will trade Miller unless they are completely sure that Hill isn't going to break down again. But any combination of Thomas, Morris, Norris, Collier, Rice etc would work greatly to our advantage. One thing is sure... either Thomas or Griffin will eventually be moved out. As a matter of fact, Griffin for Miller isn't a bad idea at all...
I know what you mean about Mike Miller. I mean, he's everything we want out of our 3 position. PURE shooting ability, and an above average rebounder at the 3. Tall, athletic, can run with this team, and will benefit most from Yao Ming double-team passes. Of course, there's no WAY we give up Cato. We make the playoffs without Miller, but if we trade cato for Miller, Ming won't be able to hold up, and we'll have to count on.....jason Collier. Cato is perfect for this team. Playing great, getting rebounds and blocks, while making ming's transition and the Rockets playoff ascent much easier. He is a necessity (sp?). My trade gives the Magic MUCH MUCH needed depth up front and in the backcourt. If they see Hill is doing really well a couple of weeks before the all star break, I think this would be a great trade for both teams. We give up the players that we really don't need: KT, Glen Rice, and Moochie Norris are 3 solid rotation player for a team with T-Mac and Hill as the primary options. Collier is a throw in, but not bad as a 3rd string C in the East, and he can shoot, which is what the Magic like from supporting players. Then throw in a pick, and the Magic have a good return on Mike Miller.
Cato has come a long way. I had a good feeling about him this summer when I saw him at the gym repeatedly. Did you see his low post moves yesterday?
Awwwww man. I wake up this morning in a great mood and I see the title of this thread and think we have a new player! Boo. Rogue journalism.
I hear you. And I like your deal much better. However, I dont believe Orlando wants Glenn's $9,600,000- 03'-2004' around their neck while they chase after Jason Kidd and Tim Duncan as free agents next year. They also will insist on a quality big man for Miller -- thats why they are considering Stromile Swift.
Cato HAS really improved. I think it's just a matter of confidence. Liek a cycle. He grabbed rebounds and blocked shots at the beginning of the season, and now his teammates are rewarding him with shots, and he's making the best of them. I can't tell you how great is is to know we have a 1-2 punch like Ming and Cato. Is it possible that practicing with ing has improved Cato's touch around the basket? Just from observation? That Ming's toughness has improved from practicing with Cato? These guys are like a really really good sweet & sour dish. The sweet makes the sour taste better, while the sour makes the sweet taste better. It's just......super. Our C rotation is top 4 or 5 in the league. Now THAT'S important in the playoffs.
My fault! I started to call it trade accepted- because of complaints that I didn't run my trade proposal numbers through real GM. com -- but I thought THAT was too general.
Maryland, I disagree. They're doing fine with their current C rotation, and Steven Hunter and Ho Grant are both coming back ih the upcoming week. Not more than 10 days from now. There's no way these guys chase after Duncan or Kidd. They have 2 max contracts. They're not trading T-Mac, and no one will take Hill. They're tied to those two. So how is it that adding Cato is better than adding Rice, when Cato's contract is much longer? Rice's contract is 2 years, 19M I think. Cato's is 4 years, 25M I think. these are rough estimates, but I think they're dead-on the real numbers. For Mike Miller, they can't do better than depth at 4 positions. No one will give up the quality big man you're talking about for Mike Miller. Maybe the best big man for Mike Miller is Adonal Foyle. I don't think they'd do that, because they are, in fact, deep at the 5 now. Kemp Ho Grant Declerq Oyedeji Burke Steven Hunter What they need is depth overall, and an improvement in the bench and supposrting cast. I think 3 of those 6 guys are a formidable C rotation for a team like them. Probably Ho Grant, backed up by Burke and Hunter, with Kemp shifting to PF. Kenny Thomas backing up Kemp would give them this 4/5 rotation: Ho Grant/Burke/Hunter Kemp/KT/Hunter I think that's more than they hoped for before the season. They also get Glen's 2 year contract (which is exactly how long they need to evaluate Grant Hill btw), and Mooch at the 1. Collier is IL, and they get a pick too. I don't think the Magic will get anything better for Miller, unless they find someone really stupid.
Try again Terp...we have been waiting this long to get production out of Cato and now you want to TRADE him?
Yao can barely pay 30 mins and thats if he is not in foul trouble. Cato should not be traded until Yao is ready to play the whole game - this could take a year or two.
FUNNY Your just hungry man. Me too! Bring on the turkey and stuffing. Happy Thanksgiving Rockets family! Ming and Cato do look great but Dampier and Foyle look like a solid duo also -- what have they accomplished together? Unless we start playing Boki and recieve production out of him - we are in trouble w/ our current cast. WE CANNOT SHOOT! We can't rely on Rice as our only consistant 3 pt. threat. w/ teams daring us to shoot the three and doubling Yao we need consistant shooters. We will not be able to compete against playoff teams shooting 35%. 1.Dallas 2.Sacramento 3.San Antonio 4.Lakers 5.Seattle 6.Minnesota 7.Portland 8.?????????? ------------ 9.Phoenix 10.Utah 11.Clippers 12.Golden St. 13.Denver 14.Memphis We can rise all the way to # 3 seed w/ a player like Miller spotting up for open shots created by Steve, Cat and Yao. I truly believe we can pass San Antonio w/ Miller. Cato will not get us above the 5th seed. Dont forget this -- WHAT IF GLENN RICE BREAKS DOWN? 8th seed if we are lucky. Every team is going to run zones against us all year - every year - It renders Steve/Cat less effective of the dribble + hinders Yao. We need 3 pt. bombers to be effective. Remeber how we got our 2 rings. Hakeem + 3 point shooters: Kenny Smith, Sam Cassell, Robert Horry, Mario Elie, Vernon Maxwell, to a lesser extent Clyde - all capitalized w/ the three.
