We get nothing from Padgett. Why not take a flyer on Anfernee Hardaway, vet minimum, or trade our exception and 2nd rounder for Ely, who wants a trade but isn't making a stink with his current team?

I think we could still use a role playing banger, especially with Yao out. If Hardaway can play to 75% of his usual self for 15-20 minutes a game he could log minutes at point, sg, or sf.

Padgett should be getting Novak's minutes right now, so no.

Penny's finished, finished, finished. It's like the endless speculation over Jay Williams, who's nowhere near athletic enough anymore to play in the league.

I'd be all over Ely for the TE & our #2. All over. Low risk move with tons of potential. He could play with either Mutombo or Hayes and help us out tons while Yao is out. We just need to hope he'd be willing to jump through the JVG hoops in a contract year.

    penny is done.

ely is a half season rental. bobcats have absoultely no use for a TE and want at least a pick. allegedly teams are holding onto picks because it's going to be a deep draft. if they're going to trade picks it'll be then.

Why not Jay Williams? was the cry for the past 3 years or so. Having finally been cut by an NBDL team, I hope that answers that question.

Penny is the same thing. The old Penny was awesome. 75% of that would be a no brainer starter. The odds that he has any explosive left are slim to none. He's been out of the NBA for a reason. He might be able to log some backup wing minutes, but he was never a particularly good outside shooter, and there's no way he can keep up with point guards anymore defensively.

As for Ely...frankly, he's just not very good. There are several teams with expiring contracts or exceptions that could acquire him, yet none of them have. When New Jersey, a team so desperate for big man help that they were interested in Juwan Howard when he was playing like garbage, decided to save a million or so by taking Bernard Robinson instead of Melvin Ely when they traded McInnis - even with Krstic out for the year on a frontline that was thin to begin with, it's clear he's just not very good. He's not getting minutes on a team that's bad for Eastern Conference standards.

When healthy, he'd be at best the 5th big man, and that doesn't take into consideration lineups with Battier or Novak at the 4.

Either would be moves for the sake of making moves.

Padget is playing equally as bad.

The problem is that guys on the bench do not have consistent minutes and are struggling when they do get a sniff....

JVG really needs to settle of a rotation for a while and let some of the new guys get some consistent run.

Yes, Novak can shoot and if he got more minutes his shot would fall.

But, he can't rebound, d up or (for god sake) move well without the ball.

Please, please, please tell me I haven't agreed with Rich Lord on anything!!!
His moron meter is only surpassed by the bionic dung brothers of the morning, davies and dukes. Charley is the only radio sports host in Houston worth listening to.

I would also like to say, I like Novak but man he is raw and needs time to develop. I'll take Padgett this season and hope the shots fall.

We should at least take a look at Hardaway. We were all hoping to get something out of Sura this season, even though he wasn't likely to be as effective as he was two years ago. Well, Penny could turn out to give us something similar. If he's willing to play for the veteran's minimum, I think it's worth the gamble.

Shouldn't today be the last day if you want to waive a palyer with a non-guarranted contract?

What we need is Chris Webber at the Vet's minimum. IT makes business sense ( the league picks up half his salary if he signs at the vet minimum) and we get a serious upgrade over Padgett- and I would say even a hobbled Chris Webber is superior to Juwan.

IMO Webber isn't that much of an upgrade over JHO. Before they Philly started sitting him Webber was complaining about not playing in the 4th quarter. Their coach in turn said it was because they weren't winning when Webber played in then 4th.

If Webber were here Hayes would still be the one deservedly playing in the 4th. Webber will just be a cancer.

Yeah! Lets rely on unsubstantiated rumors and forget that he wanted a buy out for a long time- and let Dallas and San Antonio get the man. To say Chris webbet at Vet min is not bettter than JHO is just plain ridiculous

You really think he has enough O to play with Deke or Chuck??? BTW - If I understand correctly if Ely goes for the TE Charlotte would be financially penalized by the League. They'd probably prefer Sura + $3mm and the future #2.

    I'd take Ely without question.

No bigger Penny fan in the world, but sorry to say, he's finished. Very unfortunate, but I don't see anything he'll bring to the team. If he was 50% his old self it wouldn't require another second of thought.
