Sorry if this was posted previously (have spent more time closing the board today than viewing it [IMG]), but interesting article on ESPN as to why Woods dropped so much (to #46) on Wednesday night:

Okay, I have a stupid conspiracy theory that I KNOW is dumb, but it crossed my mind last night and I figured it'd be worth posting.

And I DON'T THINK THIS IS THE CASE, BUT IT'S AN INTERESTING IDEA NONETHELESS . . .

The Timberwolves do something that lots of teams in the league do, negotiated under the table deals with a player. They just got caught because they put it in writing. They got penalized to show an example.

The rest of the league thinks this is unfair because they all do it. Sure, some sort of fine is in order, but this is too harsh. In an act of solidarity, to show David Stern, the teams consensus on letting Loren Woods drop to the only pick the Timberwolves are allowed. None of the teams want him all that badly, they're nervous about him, and they want to show up the league, so Loren Woods drops.

It seems a bit interesting that Loren Woods, a projected first-rounder (and some had him in the lotto), would fall to the Minnesota Timberwolves ONLY pick. Surely one team with a 2nd rounder that needed a center (Seattle, Detroit, Boston) would've picked him. I mean, the 2nd round is a crap-shoot anyways. They're usually wasted picks. Why not waste them on a guy who has proven himself before? If his back is shot, they've not really lost all that much . . . heck, it's ONLY a 2nd rounder. I mean, would you take a guy who sucks (Chenowith) or a guy who's been fairly solid, but could get hurt (Woods)?

Now, for the record, I DON'T THINK THIS HAPPENED. But, I think it's an interesting idea. Talk about a conspiracy theory [IMG]

I sure wish Les Alexander had bought us a second round pick so we could have picked up Loren Woods. Put him on a training regimen to bulk him up and let him earn 10-15 minutes per game for a couple of years. He might become a monster.

We could also have gotten Alvin Jones-- speaking of which, Philly got both Delambert and Jones. Let's pry one of those guys (prolly Jones). Someone proposed Lanky in a swap, but I think Lanky will be a great rotational player one day. Keep him.

A Jones for a future 2nd round pick as soon as the Sixers resign Mutombo.

Hey Rich, did you notice that Dalembert's NBA comparison on nbadraft.net was Kelvin Cato?

    Scary stuff man. Scary stuff.

Remember the game in the Elite 8 when Arizona played Illinois. Woods did nothing in that game the first 35 minutes or so. He isn't motivated it seems, and when you add that to a bad back and his string-bean size, he dropped and dropped some more. After banging against other NBA centers a few years, he will be done.

EddieGriffin: That's why I opted for AJones! Nah, I think Dalembert will be okay as long as no one offers his a 40+ Million Dollar contract too soon.

BTW, welcome to Houston.... did you ever fight with Dalembert?
