One of the assistant coaches of the Indiana Pacers was fined $10,000 by the NBA for intentionally tripping Latrell Sprewell in game 3. That could seriously hurt a player for one thing, but for a coach to do it from the bench, that's a whole lot worse. If a player did that, he'd be suspended. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
Because Spree doesn't play for the Lakers. Believe me, if someone tripped Kobe, there would be unbelievable suspensions and fines. But since it didn't hurt the Fakers, the team Stern wants to win, he doesn't care. Seriously though, I see what you mean. It was a very dangerous and dirty thing. I don't honestly know why it doesn't receive much attention. It should. ------------------ Come back Popeye!!!
You get fined more than that for refusing to speak to the media! Thanks R95 for the info. I guess the league thinks not talking to a reporter is a bigger offense than intentionally tripping someone from the sideline. What a league. ------------------ "Yes, I came from the 80s...but I didn't kill anybody. Give me a break." -Mike Tramp, former lead singer of White Lion
Rocketman, Yes it is very strange. It was barely a sideline in today's Daily News and other New York papers. Strange indeed... ------------------
I was watching when that happened and I'm still not sure it was intentional. No worse than scottie's cheap shot on spider though. Wouldn't you say so, conspiracy cat ------------------
That or was it any worse the Sheed making fun of Ron Harper's speech problem by telling him to Sh-sh-sh-sh-shut up. That's even in the Lakers series yet the press has largely ignored it. ------------------
Funny Moondogg. Really, I am suspicious of a conspiracy after last night when Kobe got those back to back unbelievably ridiculous calls. It sure makes you wonder... ------------------ Come back Popeye!!!
Although I saw it on the ESPN ticker last night, I agree that the media response has been surprisingly minimal. Of course, with Bobby Knight, Ray Lewis, and Mark Chmura hogging the headlines, who really cares about the NBA?
How many of you heard about Michael Jordan intentionally tripping referee Dee Kantner during the first Bulls game she worked? I can't remember if the story I saw was on a local Chicago area station or a national one, but it sure didn't get much pub either. Can't imagine why. ------------------
Talkin about remembering. Anyone remember when Guy V. Lewis threw the pok-a-dot towel at a player running down court. Funny. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
I was wondering what happened with that! IMO, it did not really look intentional, but looks can be deceiving. Spree looked back, had a few words with the Pacers assistant coach, then continued playing. ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
What I read his that he admitted he did it on purpose, but felt really bad about it. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com)
HELLO....McFly The NBA isn't making a big deal out of the Indiana assistant coach tripping WHO? The same guy they suspended for a YEAR. I'm sure the NBA wishes Spreewell would just pull a Machmoud Abdul-Rauf and leave the country. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
Yep Cat, the two back to back faux pas by the refs were bogus. But if there was a conspiracy afoot, pottie would have never been in that game. I saw the explanation tonight...didn't make much sense though. Emperor Rod Thorn said that you can bash someone in the back of the head as hard as you want to and it's not automatic suspension, but if you flail around and get in someones face like reggie "the girly boy" miller, it's automatic. ------------------
