I was wondering why Carmelo Anthony isn't playing in the summer league. In an article from Press-Telegram-Sports...it says... "Anthony still has not signed his contract, which is a formality because draft picks are paid according to where they are selected. The Nuggets do not plan on signing Anthony until the free-agent signing period begins on Wednesday. If they do not sign him until then, his contract will not count toward their salary-cap room." So why can't he play in the Summer League games? There are guys like Malick Badiane who hasn't signed a contract who is playing for the Rockets. And all the other guys on the Rockets summer league roster have not been signed and are playing... So why? P.S. Anthony will surprise everyone and be a solid contributor. P.S.S. no bashing!
Anthony wants to play summer league, but his agent said he would have to fight him first before he'd play a game without a contract.
Uhhmmm, he's been playing without a contract for how long? Now. suddenly. I'm scared. This is the dumbest thing I've heard in my life. I understand it. But it's still dumb. Just let the kid play. It's not like he hasn't been playing all summer. These agents are only looking out for themselves.
He's holding off on signing his contract as a courtesy to the Nuggets so they will have more cap-space to sign free agents with. It is the least they can do to reciprocate by not risking Anthony's livelihood with summer league games. Badiane is fighting for a spot in the NBA; Anthony already has a starting spot locked up. Is there any very important reason why Anthony needs to play?
