It's pretty clear Ron Ron's jumper has been WAY off this series so I dont understand why he isnt used as an option down low more, especially considering the difficulty Yao is having at establishing quality position. Artest is usually guarded by Roy, if not Roy than Outlaw. He would easily overpower both players in the post and rack up fouls on both of them. This would be huge because it would take them out of the game, especially Roy. Also, Yao has been money with his jumpers most of the series so if Yao plays in the high post and his man drops to help out on Artest, an easy kickout to Yao would create a open shot for him. All in all, playing Artest in the post more often would give him easier oportunites to score, put pressure on Roy and rack up fouls on him as well as get Yao touches and good looks to score. Im not saying the whole game, obviously Yao and Scola need their space to work, but it is definitly worth a go at some stages in the game. Play him down there! I'd love to see Roy and Outlaw try and front Artest... My 0.02c anyway. Lets get em back in Houston! Peace.
Because HE SUCKS there...he is shooting under 48% from inside 2 feet this year, check out NBA Hot Spots. Ron in the post is just not something that works..... DD
Ron is not a good finisher off the dribble, which I think mostly accounts for that poor percentage. I think he should be posted up more. It's better than him just floating around or dribbling out the clock from the perimeter.
I would not mind trying, but Ron's post skills are determined by whom is guarding him, if it is a smaller weaker player he can post up, but he struggles against more athletic players..... Ron is not all that great at anything on offense...... DD
DD, he isnt shooting well anyway! This isnt just for Ron. I think it will get Yao good looks and will wear down Roy/get him into some foul trouble. I think it is worth a try. Atm, outside of Scola, we are getting nothing from the Post so IMO it is an idea that could work and is worth trying.
Ron artest has no post game, he get blocked by midgets, he has NO LIFT on his shot, he's only good on D and a role player on Offense.
Artest doesn't jump high enough, so his shots get blocked by the longer Aldridge. Artest needs to be riding pine in the last 8 minutes of games. He can kick it with Brooks.
Because Ron would much rather shoot... He's a threat posting up, but some nights I guess he just doesn't feel like it...
He doesn't really have any post moves per say. It's more of a raw power/brute force my way in type of post-up game for Artest, and as many has mentioned he's not the best finisher. I'd like to see him post up more, certainly, than take those off balance shots. But it shouldn't be something that we depend on.
How can you play in the post when you have no post game, he has no hook shot, drop step, spin move. He justs bulls his way into the paint for a layup and because he has zero athleticism he misses a lot.
He seemed to draw fouls pretty well posting up when we played the Jazz this year that went to OT. I think he should post up there. 48% > whatever he shoots from the field.
I'd like to see him in the post more. A dude that big and strong limited to a long range jump shooter doesn't work for me.
I wanna see him post up more. His outside shot is not going very well so he might as well try to get some points in the paint. He gets blocked because he does stupid pump fakes instead of going in strong and finishing it with a dunk or laying it right up.
I totally agree with matty101 put artest in the post and let him beat the hell out of brandon roy. Or any other Portland player that wants to try and stop him. and Feed Yao the damn ball i couldnt tell you how many times last night yao had his man sealed and the past it to someone else. if the rockets are going to win advance in the playoffs the have to post artest.
48% is a lot better than some off balanced jumpshot. We should try to post Artest on Roy a bit to tire him out.
because he loves isoing out on the perimeter even though his handles are about as good as kelvin cato's
I don't know what to say about Ron. I really do love the heart he plays with but his basketball IQ is not that good. I just know what's coming when the ball is in his hands with under 12 seconds. He is a ball stopper and he'll force a bad shot or turn it over. Pass the ball Ron! If he is having an off night shooting it then take it to the basket. I just need some venting after last night...
