Why is the NBA season so short and condensed?

    It's such a long break from now until October...but then they have a grueling travel schedule and play a ton of games in a short time span, often back-to-back.

    I find it really weird. Basically, these guys get almost half the year off, and then they play and travel almost nonstop the other half of the year.

    Why not stretch it out a bit more?

    The NBA finals ended on June 16. NBA training camps start in mid-late September. That's a 3 month break, not 6. It's a shorter offseason than the NFL or MLB.

    Yeah, but the Rockets season ended April 10. 6 months no Rockets. As a fan, that's a really long withdrawal period...

    if you don't want your season to end so soon, then don't suck. these teams are ready for cancun anyway. it's that simple. the worst teams need all the offseason time they can get. it separates who really works to get better or not and wants to win over those who just want to hoop and cash checks regardless if they win or lose

    The NFL and baseball have similarly long off-seasons if you remove the playoffs from the equation.
