Why is Rafer Alston even allowed to shoot the ball??

Every time I see Rafer shoot the ball, I automatically yell, "NO, RAFER, DON'T DO IT!!!!"

And of course, 78.3% of the time this season, when Rafer shoots, he (sigh) misses the shot.

I don't understand how somebody can stay on a team for so long and still manage to miss so many open 3's. My heart is saddened a small bit every time Rafer chucks a prayer.

I swear, I meet kids at my nerd college's gym who shoot 3's better than Rafer does.

Same reason the Patriots or Texas Tech ever run the football. Keep the defense honest.

I have an idea... Trade Hayes, Head, and Alston for a 1st Round Pick + a half-decent player... Then bring DJ Strawberry back to the team... and re-sign Deke!

Who would do this though? I have NO idea! Maybe... the Thunder? LOL. :D :p

You know, if we made Rafer stop shooting after his piss-poor start last year, we probably wouldn't have even made the playoffs. People don't seem to grasp the importance of him being able to hit that 3 for us. It was the primary reason, along with the schedule, for our bad start last year. but at the same time, his great play was key in our late season surge.

I say just let him shoot his way out of it, like he did last year. Look at our current starting lineup. Tmac doesnt hit the 3 consistently. Artest has been a godsend from outside, but we need at least 2 guys on the court knocking them down.

Because he is wide open and is capable of making 3's.

No matter how high the probability that he misses the widee-open, he still believe the God will bless him for the next!

He is a starting PG playing 35 minutes a game. he has to shoot the wide open shots. not making them is another story.

We have to use three stars to overcome Raferness.

Scola is signed for this year and next year. And we already lack depth at C as is, we're not going to trade Scola and Alston for Hinrich.

Start Landry and let Chuck Hayes be his back-up. Landry is just as good offensively and Hayes is much better defensively. Problem Solved. Also, need a better point guard that can actually shoot from the outside and not make idiotic decisions. Hinrich can do this while playing great defense. Rafer Alston makes me want to stab myself.

He'll end up shooting around 35-40%. More importantly he runs the offense. It's not like he's jacking up 15 shots a game.

I don't want him to shoot walk up contested 3's. But if he gets it wide open as a result of our offense I want him to shoot.

No question Rafer is the weakest link in the starting lineup. His 3 point shooting percentage ain't that great. Not only that....he doesn't do anything else other than just spot up and shoot. The Rockets will be much more lethal if you have a PG that penetrate and score as well and not just take 3....this way you have opponents guessing. That's why Aaron Brooks is a perfect example of PG we need.

When Luther Head said when he is playing with the starters...he doesn't know if he should shoot during fastbreak or back out and diss the ball to one of the superstars. You see, when you question yourself and doubt yourself...then you ain't good...that means the coach have no confident in you attacking the basket. Look at Arron Brooks, does he doubt himself when he constantly attacking the basket?? He doesn't even think...you just do it! And that comes naturally if you have it or not!! I don't think Rafer have it...his floater is weak. He never seem to try to concentrate when he does a floater...he just put it up real quick. Plus his small size prevent him from attacking the basket and draw fouls and i think he's afraid of contact.

During the Mavs game, with like 9 secs left before the quarter end, Rafer look at the clock and instead of run the time down, he chose to attack the basket and does a weak floater that never seem to go in for his career. This is totally unacceptable because first of all, if you're a PG, you don't attack the basket when someone is guarding it and you don't attack with this much time left...it's your job to run the time down and take the last shot. As a result of his panic decision, the Mavs have 2 or 3 secs left to put up another shot. Totally inexcusable. I know Adelman would not yell at his players, but if this is JVG coaching, he probably would have said something.

Come on now, one poor shot selection makes you want to trade your starting PG?

How about Tmac? None of his jumpers seems to be reasonable. Rafer can dribble and push the ball. He is experienced and decent at defense.
