Remeber a couple of days CC.net had big text in its frontpage saying "Yao is set to sign on this Friday via satellite". Well Friday has almost passed, and I heard nothing! :(

According to Chinese media, Rockets cancelled the news conference at Wednesday night but released the statment about Ming's contract being done. They don't want to disturb Ming and his Asian Games plays.

When does China play next in their semi-final match-up?

I'll bet the Rockets already have the signed contract in their hands. Its just making the announcement during the Asian competition might make the Chinese NT resentful etc...

Especially if they happen to lose one of those games. Rockets don't want the blame for that :(

LeGrouper, that was a verbal agreement not a signing. With that said, ENOUGH with the Yoa signing BS. It is a done deal with only mere formalities to be overcome.

Technically, they cannot sign his actual contract until they receive the official paperwork release from the CBA. That will not come, according to the Chinese, until immediately following the conclusion of the Asian games on Monday. Clutch was right that the deal was done...verbally. In order to get inked agreements, everything has to happen at once.

At this point, it is more of a technicality than a problem.
