C. Webb will not seriously entertain coming to the Rockets next season. He have a large NBA market, one of the better cities in the US (as far as food, entertainment, diversity, etc.), no state income tax and great back court trio (SF,SA & CM), a great owner, a players coach, $$$$ and yes....we will have the approval for the new arena by the time C. Webb is a free-agent. List goes on, but I sure the fans of this site already know the pros of coming to the Rox, yet everyone is stating that he will stay in Sac-Town (I know because of $$$) or go to NY (why in the hell NY, their on the decline). IMO, I feel we can get him.....if all Rox fans can give C.Webb tha love this year (you know chant his name to come here when the Kings are visiting the Laptop and getting spanked). Openingly and SHAMELESSLY court C. Webb now. Clear the necessary space, start false rumors to put pressure on the Kings to trade in fear of losing him w/o compensation, whatever it takes! I apologize in advance for such a long post, but when I start dreaming of Webber in a Rockets uni, man, I can only think about a few things better than that in life..... C. Webb + Franchise + Anderson + Mobley w/ a little Cato thrown in = Championship run, b-a-b-y! ------------------
If the Rockets sign Mo. Taylor for a year and squeek into the playoffs at 7th or 8th, then how much of an improvement can CWebb be over Mo Taylor? Obviously, CWebb is a better player, but how does that translate into wins compared to what Taylor can do? 5 more? If the Rockets go 42-40 this year with Taylor, do we go 47-35 next year with CWebb? Maybe the Rockets go as high as 50-32 and a 5 seed. I think Webber may opt for a contender and money, and try to get a sign and trade deal done to a top 4 seeded playoff team. Any chance of us landing Webber will depend on how well the Rockets do with Mo. Taylor this year, IMHO. (assuming we sign Taylor) ------------------ "There's 1,000 different things we're looking at, but there's not a lot of things there," he said. 1. houston may not have enough cap room 2. they have nothing to offer in a sign-and-trade 3. Houston is NOT one of the larger tv markets... they're high-average. 4. Houston is not a contender. 5. Webber has no ties to Houston-and he does to other cities. 6. Webber has *mentioned* other cities as possible locations to relocate to-not Houston. 7. All things being equal, there are 29 teams in the NBA, and Webber's only going to one of them. I'm sure someone else would be happy to contribute more reasons . ------------------ David Falk is a MoFo. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
Tb-Cain - I have to disagree with you, somewhat. I am not a big clips fan and only know Mo's stats, but not what kind of true player his is. Based on his stats (or lack thereof)and this $$ manipulation game he has been playing, I don't think he would be a good addition to our team. I mean does he commands a double or triple team like Webb does? How much would that improve our game and the overall win ratio? 5 games? 10 games? I believe more. You also state that "Webb would want to go to a contender". Two questions, who is a contender that could really take on his salary? And which has more glory / honor....turning a ball club into a champion or going to one that pretty much all ready there (ie - going to Houston vs going to Portland or Miami....example only)? ------------------
Reason number one: We are not championship contenders he has indicated that he will only sign with one. Reason number two: We are not media darlings nor will we EVER be, i suppose. He wouldn´t ever get the coverage here that he would in LA, for instance. Reason number three: Webber never mentioned Houston and has mentioned NY and Detroit. Reason number four: anyone who comes to Houston will play sidekick to Francis. Webber wouldn´t feel comfortable with that. Reason number five: we won´t have capspace next year since we will have to resign Shandon and Mo (wishful thinking on my part) to larger deals. Reason number six: you´re not serious about that crack of "cannot think about better things in life..." are you? Bball related, i would rather have Duncan and Garnett, and non bball related... well, don´t get me started on THAT... there´s a life outside of bball you know. Pamela? Britney? Angelina Jolie...? Does that ring any bells? ------------------ "The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It´s Heaven and Hell!"
Thanos: I think Francis will be a terrific PG, but I'm certainly not sure if he'll be the player Webber is. Webber turned a bottom-dweller into a playoff team. Francis may be better... but I'm not positive, and I don't see how anyone could be at this point. Besides, I think their positions would be different enough to prevent such lables. Was Kemp or Payton the star of the Sonics during their glory days? I couldn't tell you. ------------------ David Falk is a MoFo. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
By the way, when does KG become a free agent? Not an expert here on contracts and such. ------------------ And tonight...From the Bank United Center...Your Houston Rockets and Miami Heat in Game 1 of the 2004 NBA Finals!!!!!
Thanos: "Bball related, i would rather have Duncan and Garnett, and non bball related... well, don´t get me started on THAT... there´s a life outside of bball you know. Pamela? Britney? Angelina Jolie...? Does that ring any bells" Ok, let me re-phrase that.....not too many things in BBall life that is better (remember, guys I new to this BBS stuff). P.S. - What are the chances if you even breathing the same air as Pamela, Britney (my god please don't be talking about Spears)or Angelina Jolie? ------------------
Haven: If you ask me, it was Payton. Even though Kemp was a spectacular player, he didn´t dominate the position as Payton did and does to this day. Barkley has even said that he thought that Payton was the best player in the league, and he isn´t going too far saying that, IMHO. Malone, Duncan and even Garnett are better players than Kemp was in his prime. Name a PG better than Payton. Magic is the only one that comes to mind. Franchise Cat: Somewhere in the same neighborhood of our chances of landing Webber... believe me, he ISN´T coming here. ------------------ "The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. Thanos we might not be media darlings now, but neither was sacremento until they got webber and williams. and i'm sure i'm not the only one who will agree that francis is a definite upgrade over williams. he's not going to play sidekick to francis. it's going to be just like the payton-kemp duo in seatle. and the only reason they didn't win a championship was MJ. there's no MJ now, and webber is arguably better then kemp was. not to mention the other pieces we have. we'll have plenty of cap space, because if we're going to go for webber then we won't even bother with Mo, and shandon will wait to opt out of his contract so that he can get bird rights, and sign a large contract that can exceed the cap. Tb-Cain if webber comes to this team, it will probably make us an instant 50-win team, if not even a 60-win team. with francis alone we might make the playoffs. webber is a guy who can carry a whole team on his shoulders. a-la garnett. teamed with a guy like stevie, they're going to create havoc. it'll be like the lakers with shaq and kobe. if shaq wasn't mvp then webber would have probably won. it's still unlikely that webber will actually come here, but it's definiltly something that we should hope for, and try to have happen. ------------------ "When the mind is thinking, it is talking to itself." .... FranchiseCat, Hey is this your dream image? [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited August 24, 2000).]
heypartner - Why are you sending pics of your girl like that???? And don't you thinks she should stay off the steroids? P.S. - Better creativity this time, though. ------------------
FranchuiseCat: You wrote: ".... one of the better cities in the US (as far as food, entertainment, diversity, etc.) .... " This is not a gibe at you particularly, because a lot of people feel the way you do. But it never ceases to amaze me how some feel that their city, state or whatever is the only city, state (whatever) that has the amenities that their home offers. We went through the same thing last year with everyone saying that they understand why Francis turned down Vancover. That Vancover which in fact is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, did not offer this or that. Simply, Steve Francis wanted to be nearer his family, would like to have been on a team where he would not be openly sharing the PG duties his first year and because he had a certain amount of influence on where he would work for the next 3-4 years and so he did everything possible to affect that outcome. Sacramento is a very beautiful city, and has an abundance of each of the amentities you mentioned. Some would argue that they have more to offer than Houston, as far as lower crime stats, a year-round temperate climate, multi-faceted cultures, dining, museums, state capitalship, etc... More importantly C Webb has expressed a desire to stay where he is. He has a favorable rating with the fans, he and his family call that place home, etc ... . When he mentions going somewhere else, it may or may not be posturing by his agent for a bigger pay day. But let's face it, Houston is way down his list (if it is there at all). Don't be surprised if C.Webb does exactly what you seem to proclaim. Stay in Sacramento, his new found home. Not in spite of all the amenities you mentioned Houston should be proud of, but simply because other cities like Sacramento also have them. [This message has been edited by oeilpere (edited August 24, 2000).]
oeilpere - Well said. And I can not argue with on that. I have live many places in the US, being a military brat and each city has its own unique amenities, however when I became an adult (if I can say that) I felt that all of the cities that I have lived in Houston won hands down. But that is in no way a knock on Sacramento, Vancouver or any other city. I just really hope, wish and pray that C. Webb would come to H-Town. ------------------
In support of the original poster here: 1) from what i've heard, and no i don't have evidence to back this up but i will start looking, webber has said more than once that he is intrigued by Houston 2) the arena issue will be solved by next year and Houston has the Rudy factor and the Houston factor (tons of NBAers live here, quality of life is good) 3) Webber won't come because he won't want to be second fiddle to Francis? So he's going to go to the . . . Warriors where he is the only good player? come on 4) Rockets won't be contenders. Screw you all. The Rockets by the end of this season WILL be contenders, with or without Mo or C-Webb, and if they were to add Webber, would become at worst second / third seed in the west material and at best co-favorites with the Lakers 5) However, and i'm no capologist, it seems unlikely to me that the Rockets will have the cap room, so much of this discussion is moot. But to say C-Webb is not coming to Houston because of any other reason is crap. Name a so-called "contender" that he could possibly go to that would be a better choice than the Rockets. Knicks? whatever. Portland? crowded up front, no money. Lakers? no money. others: hometown Detroit? the new Clipper wasteland of the NBA. Chicago? ditto. more than anything the negativism about the current Rockets team makes me sick. This is a playoff-caliber team this year, with or without Mo. ------------------
Jeff: I agree that Houston is a playoff caliber team... but I think that Webber is going to want to go to a team that's nearly guaranteed a championship, if he leaves Sacramento. Such a team would not need salary cap room as long as they had trade bait for Sacramento, who, I'm sure, would want something in return. Who does Houston have that Sac would want that badly? ------------------ David Falk is a MoFo. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
JR: there´s a big difference between being a championship team and a playoff team. Though it´s quite possible that we will make the playoffs this season, by contenders i meant teams that can serisouly challenge the Lakers for the championship. With Mo onboard i would say that we basically are a lock to reach the playoffs. But to think that a ring is within our reach...? We are nowhere near that as of now. It will take at least a couple of years. That is not negativism. It´s a fact. And i would like to know your sources as far as Webber mentioning Houston is concerned. To my knowledge he has never uttered a word about playing here. ------------------ "The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It´s Heaven and Hell!"
