Personally I cannot stand this team. I dont know why. Maybe its because of the interstate rivalry with the Rockets, the fact that we havent beaten them since 1997, that they now have 1 more ring than we do , or the fact that they are a bunch of nice guys. Or maybe Im just jealous that TP gets to date Eva Longoria (lucky b*stard), Greg Popovich has a face like Tommy Lee Jones (ok that doesnt make me jealous really), and they play solid, fundamental, good-guy, team basketball - something we have all longed for in H-town over the past several years. Furthermore, I dont like Tim Duncan. He looks like Curious George, talks like he's from Northern Kansas, drops one liners like "that's r****ded", and banks in his shots off that stupid little square above the rim. He annoys me for some reason. Never mind the fact that he is hands down the best big man in the league. Damnit..... I can't hate them.... I just can't. I really do want to, but it just isn't possible. They are the NBA blueprint for what should be done to win at the professional level. Here's to you San Antonio...... not really though.....
Kenny, or was it Charles was saying the same thing, the whole they are a blueprint for how to build an NBA franchise and while I do agree they are a good team, they basically just got lucky enough to suck that one year Duncan came out. They haven't done anything else that well compared to the Rockets, D-Rob got hurt and they stunk for one whole year, drafted TD and the rest are just spare parts. I do hate the fact that we appear to be on th opposite side of the beating stick than when Dream was here.
hate them for tanking a season away by sitting a healthy david robinson so that they could land tim duncan now that's classy
Spurs team is a good example who plays team basketball. They just play pure basketball at its best. No show offs, no 3 fingers when somebody makes a 3 pointer. They just do basketball. Not much complaining.. They don't publicly say that they like coach Pop a lot, or I like playing for coach Pop, "He's the best coach" thing, they simply respect him because they are aware that if they don't do what he wants them to do, their playing career will be in jeopardy. No exemptions, superstar or not, they are all required to play defense, bring down the ball in 5 seconds and take an unforced shot. Again, they just do basketball. If you hate them, try chess or ping-pong!
If I wasent mistaken it was the rockets that purposely tank the season to get the #1 draft pick. Houston was responible for the lottery
I think he was referring to 84 and 85 when we had back-to-back #1 picks (Ralph Sampson and Dream). In '84 we completely and obviously tanked the season. Oh well.....
I can't really hate them either. In fact, I find it hard to sports teams generally, though I still hate the Lakers and Celtics. Outside of the NBA, I hate the Titans, Cowboys, and Braves. I love everybody else.
I'd hardly say we tanked anything. We more than doubled our record from the previous year. In the '82-'83 season the Rox finished 14-68 and then went 29-53 the next year. Sampson was ROY (played and started all 82 games) and otehr than Lewis Lloyd, Robert Reid & rookie McCray there really wasn't much to that team. Not impressive by any means but to say we tanked is just wrong.
i hate any team that isn't the rockets, especially the other texas teams. but i respect the way they play the game. it is no wonder they are champions, they play great defense, offensively they move the ball great and most importantly they dont' care about individual stats. TD could go for 25 & 13 everynight but he cares more about the win than the personal accolades.
hate the spurs respect their game i heard from reliable sources though that ginobili and bowen like balls.
