That was an ignorant comment but a huge majority of my south/southeast Asian friends are only 1st generation so I can kinda understand why she would think that. How old are you? If you are in your 40s I would have put money that you would have an accent. EDIT: ohh it's smokey. You must be like 25. Yea that's r****ded. She should know better. That's sad that some people never even talk to people their age from other races.
It has less to do with age and more to do with where you grew up. I know 40 year olds with thick accents and 40 year olds with no accent because they went through the public school system here from elementary on.

In fact, 2 of my biggest enemies in the WORLD are [insert your race here]. But sexually, I prefer [insert your race here] men...for my work AND in my personal life."
My brother was in a Wal-Mart in Nevada a year ago and he was commenting to his wife that he had never been in a wal mart before. He's 30 and has always lived in Boston or New York after wal-mart became big, and has been working in Hong Kong for for 4 years. Also a Harvard Law grad. The cashier heard him and was so shocked and told all her cashier buddies that this guy has never been in a wal-mart before. When it was time to pay, they asked for a drivers license, which he didn't have, and he said he lives overseas. The cashier and her friends were so wowed to see someone who lived overseas (don't think they realized he was American). You can guess the next thing she said. "Wow! Your English is soo good!" Usually theres a fine line between racism and ignorance, but these people were clearly ignorant.
