Yao Ming Steve Francis Jason Kidd Start there. Reckon we could find some level-headed veteran talent at the forward positions and backup positions who want a good shot at multiple rings between 2004 and 2010?
yeah, they really need to pursue jason kidd. i think they should also pursue tim duncan and tracy mcgrady so our line up can be: yao tim duncan tracy mcgrady steve francis jason kidd and also, i think the rockets should become a more progressive team and set the tone for the new millenia. they should lead the way in cloning. right now we should be working on cloning dream, moses malone and calvin murphy at least because they are all accessable. perhaps we should also look into cloning jordan, oscar robertson and kareem abdul jabar too. we ought to be on the forefront of the cloning revolution. be leaders and not followers........
The Nets believe they can re-sign him in the offseason AND they feel like with him, they can go deep in the playoffs this season. As a result, he won't be traded. Since the Rockets are over the cap, they have no money to offer Kidd in the offseason and not enough value to offer in return for a sign and trade because Kidd's contract will probably be worth $100 million +.
Everybody loves a smart-aleck! As Jeff pointed out, Kidd will be a FA. We need to make roster moves to create cap space. How can the Spurs be going after him with Duncan's and Robinson's contracts whil we can't? How is it that they have room and we don't. Our huge contract is Francis'. I wish Rice came off the books this year. MoT is a significant contract, too.
I think Robinson's contract is up after this year. Anyway, the Rockets have Mo Taylor, Francis, Cato, and Rice to fill up the cap. They're not doing anything in the FA market this offseason unless they can clear a nice chunck of money really quick, especiallly if they want cap room for a Jason Kidd.
So are we still angling for Tim Duncan? Doesn't he become a FA when Rice's contract runs out? Dunan will have to choose between Kidd/Bateer and Francis/Yao.
if i'm going to be serious about this, i wouldn't want to unload our young players to make cap room for jason kidd. i think we have the talent to win championships now, it's just a matter of letting that talent meld and mature together. i see no reason to try to get an older player when even if we got him, i still think it would be at least two or three years before we'd be ready to win it all. obviously if the rockets see a way they can improve dramatically i'm all for it, but i'm quite content to keep this team together as is and watch them grow together.
The Spurs actually have several contracts that will expire at the end of the year. They only have like 4 players signed to contract beyond next year. From what I've read they will have enough to re-sign Duncan to the max plus add another max player. The rest of their roster may look like garbage (outside of Tony Parker, and Malik Rose who are signed long term) but any team that has both Duncan and Kidd has a legit shot at the title. The question is will they pursue Kidd or will they pursue another big man to replace Robinson like J.O'Neal or Kandi.
Who cares about cap room. Most of the big players go in trades or sign n trades. Rarely do big players just SIGN. We have a good chance at the players, but we don't have the right personnel. If Duncan comes here, the only reason could be is that he forces it for some reason. In which case we'd probably do this: Cato Griffin Boki Mobley for Duncan But, again, they'd have to force it, and I think they'd rather let him walk. But if he walks, then who would play for them? I think Kidd, Duncan and O'Neal won't switch teams while Brand, Kandi, and Payton will.
I get the same impression. I just hope that both Payton, and Kandi/Brand don't decide that they want to play with Duncan. The entire NBA would be screwed for years to come if that happens.
Not a chance..... as Kidd says he'll play for a team that has a legit chance of winning it all, I'm just supposing he's referiring to play-off teams that need only one piece of the puzzle (thats him) to win the rings..... Houston may not be even an afterthought unless theyd make a run deep in the play-offs this year. Besides, Rox might be wary of the lux tax, in which case Kidd's not gonna get the max here...... Kidd's acquisition is a long shot............. :confused
That only works if the team the player wants to go to has the cap room to just sign him. That's the players leverage. If you don't do a sign-and-trade, so I can get more money I will just sign with the team and you will get nothing.
