I guess the question should be ‘why doesn't anyone want him’ -- he put up solid numbers when given the chance. Does anyone have some good info on him - is he really that bad now - etc.? Seems like a good guy with a solid work ethic on our D-team... Why not see what he could do for us with a 10 day contract... Tonight for the Toros - Fizer went for 44 pts and 10 boards. ________ Fizer Returns to Toros Forward Marcus Fizer has returned to the Austin Toros after completing a 10-day contract with the Seattle SuperSonics. Fizer, 6-8, 260, was signed by the Sonics on March 8 but failed to appear in a game. The fourth overall selection in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls, Fizer has played in 232 career NBA games with the Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 21.9 minutes, 10.5 points and 5.0 rebounds. link
We have a rebounder in Hayes whom JVG wont play. Another PF in Lampe whom he wont give a chance, and a PF in Stro whom once he strings together a nice rythym, he pulls him out. Fizer would be on the bench just like Hayes would. If you never saw him play in Chicago, he's not as good as you think he is.
He is better then both Howard and Swift right now, I have no idea why he is not in the NBA and a rotation player on someone's team. The only thing is that sometimes he does not bring it every night, but man...he is a beast. DD
every night i watch nbatv and just about every highlights of d league hes doing something and putting up numbers....ive always wondered why someone didnt give him another chance but then again it is d league
I've seen Marcus Fizer play with the Austin Torrrrrrros twice this year. The guy can flat out play, but only when he chooses to. He is lazy and doesn't care about the game unless the ball is in his hands. He does nothing on defense worth mentioning. All in all, not a Van Gundy player, but he would have been like a Felton Spencer type in the 90's style ball. NBA basketball is too fast paced right now for Fizer to play. The dude needs to lose weight and train for more quickness if he wants another shot at the big leagues.
Like McgradySNKT said, even rockets do sign him, he will still be Juwan Howard's backup and play less than 10 minutes a game!
Hmmm, i've never heard that he is lazy so that's an interesting take -- I really haven't heard much about him - except that he was a very high pick who put up about 10 - 5 a night... I think he would make a nice back up and he has a hell of a lot of upside. ____ I agree that he needs to shed a few pounds -- he's not fat by any means, but he can't be that quick with so much weight. When you think of it - Is Fizer really that much worse than Stromile?
He was great at Iowa State...but I think he's another Stromile in that he shows flashes of greatness in the NBA...but then sinks to mediocrity.
Lazy might not be the right word for it, but his energy is much higher with the ball in his hands than any other time. Offense seems to be his main focus. He still has NBA smarts, a great jumper, plenty of range, but most of his points come from driving to the hoop on these (non-NBA sized/skilled) defenders for easy-ish points. Plus, a lot of these drives he makes would be called charges and hooks by NBA refs. I have no clue what a good weight for Fizer would be to play in the NBA, but his quickness needs to improve. I've seen big guys like Barkley and Antoine Carr move faster in similar situations. It's not that Barkley and Carr were fast, but they made up for the lack of speed with quick hands and arms, body positioning. Fizer relies on his God given talent of shooting touch and dribbling, but doesn't use his God given size properly. I'm not saying that the Rockets shouldn't look at him, but if they take the chance, it will be a risk as to whether or not Fizer will put in the work to imrove enough to earn playing time. You also need to understand that when looking at the stats, Fizer is the first option on offense and he's played with the team all year. I've seen a couple of guards come down from NBA teams that were new to the team, better than Fizer, but because Fizer understands the Toros offense, he still gets the ball first. Knowing all this, read Van Gundy's quotes about who gets playing time. Fizer probably isn't a good fit in Houston in my opinion. On Stromile vs. Fizer? Stromile works much harder than Fizer on defense. Much harder. Same for rebounding. (note: I haven't seen Stro play live yet, only on tv 20 times or so)
