i mean its really helped cure my insomnia problems. i start watching a recorded game on my dvr and i sleep like a baby cricket ftw!
We have baseball, which is cricket evolved. Just like we have American Football, which is rugby evolved, which is soccer evolved.
Don't cricket test matches take like 5 days to play? That makes baseball an adrenaline junkie's quick fix
Cricket's gotten more exciting with ODI's and this recent 20/20 format. I think people are turned off from it because of it's length of match (3 DAYS???) and random tea breaks during play. Shortening it to 1 day and now a couple hours has made the gameplay a little more bearing to watch.
Anything with random tea breaks = FAIL. Now if they have random beer breaks and make it more likes softball, then they maybe onto something.
Americans dont like cricket for the same reason people around the world dont like NFL. You are interested in what you grow up playing and watching. If a sport is not relevant to you, chances are, you don't care one bit about it. I think ignorance plays a part as well in some cases. Many people will hear the name of a sport, having never actually watched a game, and say its crap. I am happy to watch any sport. In fact there are only a few sports I don't like. My favorite is Rugby League, Cricket, Basketball, NFL the occasional soccer game and pretty much every motor sport. The ones I don't like? Rugby Union, AFL, NASCAR, the majority of soccer games....thats about it though.
Agreed. It depends on hand-eye coordination, which goes back to something primal within us all. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors never killed their meal with feet... they threw things at it or clubbed it.
Think of what a batsman has to take into calculation. They view the ball coming out of the bowlers hand and try and predict what type of ball he is bowling. Then he has the flight of the ball, the movement as it hits the pitch, what stroke he wants to play....and all that in a fraction of a second. Im not here to covert anyone, if you don't like it, you don't like it. I do think its always good to get some of the intricacies pointed out though, it gives a better understanding of the game.
20/20 and ODI cricket and is great stuff to watch. Its my favorite sport to play after table tennis. A few years ago they had this cricket exhibition match at the old Astrodome. I was sitting near the side area, and this ball went into the audience and knocked this little girl in the head. The medics had to come and attend to her. Great fun by all!
You should see some of the catches the crowd makes here during the summer of Cricket we have. You'll see a fat bloke walking to his seat, beer in hand, and he'll take a one handed screamer of a catch and no spill his beer, its great!
Baseball is even more boring though in my opinion. A lot of Cricket players are very good baseball player. They see a pitch as a full toss that should be sent over the fence accordingly.
I like Cricket, got a chance to play it when I lived in the UK...neat game...slow paced...good beer. I hit the century 3 times. DD
