at times during last season,he brought the rockets back almost by himself. ( at lakers the second time)
Well, two main reasons... 1) His salary (mosty because he was injured and was recuperating so he didn't have a chance to show us if he could play up to what he was making). 2) He can't rebound. Those are the two big ones, some others don't really care for him cause he's had drug problems and occasional weight problems.
Basically i think everyone is bashing him for the fact that he does have such a huge contract and he was brought here with great expectations when he was a free agent. When he came from the Clips he was in great shape and a great player. But as soon as the deal went in with the rockets and he started getting hurt his weight ballooned and he is where he is now. He was going to be a great player i think if he had worked harder and was willing to listen to Larry Smith and learn how to rebound a bit more. I agree that he brought us back in many games cuase he can score, i am not denying that, but you can't be one dimensional and expect to become better.
Mo has a big fat mouth, a big fat ass, and more importantly a big fat contract with a game that doesn't match. I think that about does it for me.
I think you guys are all full of ****. First of all, Mo came here for a lowball contract. He didn't slack off because he got a big contract. He came here for a slight contract (one year, I think, maybe two). He didn't get his big contract til right before he got hurt. And, for the record, he got hurt playing hard in summer games. He was in the best shape of his career when he signed. Second, he has NEVER been asked to rebound as a Rocket. He has systematically been played away from the basket. And we have guards who are board crazy. If he can't board under JVG, okay, but this was never his role under Rudy. Third, it's crap to say he never worked hard. He's in the top 25% (at least) of hard workers on our squad. And his shot, when he gets his legs back from injury, is money as hell. And fourth, even though it wasn't his role to be a defensive stopper or rebounder last year, he tried to be both on occasion. And when he did, he did it with passion. For all the silly talk about EG's potential, Mo was a way better man to man defender last year. The hate towards him is plain stupid. He did nothing to earn it. He hasn't slacked off, in practice, offseason or games. He's played as hard as he could and he hasn't found his ceiling yet. The resentment toward him on this board is way worse than that towards Cat or Steve (which is also way out of control). At least those guys actually make mistakes and deviate from the plan. Mo's only great crimes are doing what he's told, getting hurt and signing a contract that was put in front of him.
well said batman...Mo is my favorite player on the rox and I forsee great things from the man this season.
the fact of the matter is that he got hurt and was out for a season. that's when all the talk of him underachieving and being overpaid started. moT's good, and is definitely more of an asset than a liability. under jvg he should again head in the right direction. and as much as his defense is lamented, he'll sacrafice his already bloated and crippled body and take a charge (ala hawk), which can't be said for 3/4 of this team. and if he's truly back in shape, good for him. i, too, believe his criticism is harsh and quite unwarranted. plus, he went to michigan, and that makes him allright in my books (if you haven't guessed yet, i went there to...go blue!) go rox!
Only one issue on my end. 4 remaining years @ $35.1m. I'm anxious to see what JVG can get ouit of him.
I do agree with ya'lls points that he is overpaid and that he can't rebound, but.... But, should ya'll be mad at Rockets management for his contract flaw. I don't get mad at players because of their contracts (unless it's Cato or Mooch, and shows no desire to win or work). Mo was pretty consistent last year, especially after sitting out an entire season. Some player are never the same after an inury like that, Mo came back and still showed off his offensive game (little hook shot in the middle and a nice 8-10 ft jumper). Responding to the rebounding flaw....Ya, I don't know what the deal with him and rebounds are. All I know is that Mo came back from a serious injury and was pretty good. I also know that MoT lost quite a bit of weight this offseason.
Your about the tenth...same answer...I'm still stunned like Glen. Incidently, one of the recommendations was changing Rice to Mo...but so far I've rejected it.
Batman, good to see someond defend Mo. He's not the best rebounder, though he tries hard. Other than that it is like the overblown irrational hatred directed toward, KT, and Cato. Hopefully like the hatred toward them, it will turn around.
Thank you! I agree....people here are too critical at times. Understanding everyone is initialed to their own opinions, there are a lot of "quick to judge" folks around this forum that are great about voicing detailed opinions, but lack REAL basket knowledge.
