Because there's no point playing a PS3 without them. I just bought NBA2K8 and a new PS3, started playing it for like 10 min and thought I was lied to by all the magazines and such because the game looked horrible w/component cable. Went out and bought a HDMI cable, and the difference between the two games is night and day. IMO, the PS3 should come with HDMI cables and it's just cheap on their part to not do it.
Mainstream gaming console companies take a loss on the hardware they sell. In other words, an XBOX 360 or PS3 is cheaper for you to buy than it costs the manufacturer to make. They make this "sacrifice" so you'll buy the inexpensive console and then purchase a lot of pricey games which are quite cheap to manufacture. Since they are taking a loss on the console to begin with, they can't justify including any extra accessories that aren't absolutely necessary. Besides, why would they give you an HDMI cable when they know you will buy one? And I don't think they're too worried about pissing off the gamers. You'll keep buying and playing and they'll keep making millions. Ahhh, free enterprise.
+1 on Monoprice. I purchased a 50 foot HDMI cable from them for about $50. The same cable at a local store would probably have been about $500. The cable is thick and very well constructed and I do not see any artifacts nor do I need an amplifier. It runs through my attic from my receiver to my projector.
not a splitter cable...what you need is a splitter box, which Monoprice also sells and yeah, for any type of cable need, people should always order from Monoprice. unless time is an issue, and you need something right then and there
I'm a bit shocked that you could notice that much of a difference. Since you were complaining to having to go out and buy a cable, I'm thinking you were using the cables that came with the PS3 which are composite cables, not component. Red,Green,Blue=Component Yellow=Composite
yeah I was a little confused about that too... wizkid, did you mean composite? cause really, there is not a huge difference between component and HDMI
Sorry, I got my terms mixed up and meant composite. Regardless, I think if you're selling a next-gen system it's needs to be next gen out of the box.
I guess it's because of money. When I bought the Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player which is one of their first gen models, it came with a HDMI cable. But when I bought the HD-XA2 which is the high end 2nd gen model(and originally retailed for $799.99), that didn't come with a cable. As for the PS3, Sony could be making a big mistake not including component or HDMI cables. Like you said, you hooked it up using the composite cables that did come with it and the video quality looked awful. More than a few people out there could end up returning the thing either because they think the graphics suck or that the unit is busted.
Saw this at Best Buy the other day: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=product&tab=1&id=1174694369279#productdetail Don't know anything about it though.
The expectation is that if someone buys a HD-DVD player, they have an HDTV. Most of the people with PS3s don't have HDTVs. It would have been an added expense.
Why would anyone buy a PS3 without a HDTV? It's also an Blu-Ray player. If you're buying a PS3 only to play it at 480 SD, there's no reason not to stick with the PS2.
It's because all of the video game console companies have made some rather dumb decisions this generation. This is one of them. That doesn't work though, primarily because its HD capabilities in general, and specifically its role as a Blu-Ray player, have been hyped to no end - even by Sony themselves.
you'll be suprised. i got a couple "gamer" friend who cares less about graphics, but is more into the gameplay. he didnt have an hdtv when he bought his 360 or ps3. he just wants to get the new grand turismo, mgs, resident evil 5, etc. for a lot of ppl, it's the new games more than anything else
Maybe, but in - terms of pure game play, the most system with theh most impressive group of games currently is ...................... the Nintendo DS. If you care about "gameplay", that's the system to get. And if he's wants the new games that badly, and is willing to pay $60 for them (if he buys new, otherwise he should wait another year for the price on those games to drop along with the system) he should atleast spend some money on a HDTV. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889022019 I have to believe most people that buy a "next-gen" in large part for the graphics. Thus PS3 should be making the experience ready out of box.
There is a next gen system which has a ethernet port, so they should include rj45 cables? Since their currently pushing hdmi on all their latest revisions, they should include hdmi cables too? They also push online and make it a big deal, shouldn't they include free online play as well? There is another system which can only be connected online through a wireless network. Should they include a wireless router with each system? I just purchased a juice blender, why didn't it come with some fruits?
i eventually got an lcd tv...but yeah was spending $60 for 360 and ps3 games. just for the games, not so much the graphics. for some ppl the graphics just add to their experience. i personally think you have to have an hdtv to really enjoy it
