    MagicFan,

Been to China - in Tianenman Square the day it got dangerous.

The Chinese government can control what each citizen does in ways that we don't understand. Just one example of the fundamental freedoms we enjoy and too often simply take for granted.

Were it that easy for Ming.

    Pics or info huh....

See the button up top that says "Search"?

Hit it and enter "Yao Ming"

I'll wager you will get more hits than you care to look at.

What I find interesting about these 'reports' of Yao needing clearance is that a lot of articles make it sound as if the Rockets need to go traveling across China for 9 different entities in 9 different locations to sign off on Yao.

At the most, the Rockets may only need to travel to 2, maybe 3 cities, Shanghai and Beijing. In other words, they could secure a release in as little as a few formal and informal meetings, perhaps gaining all the necessary signatures at the same time.

I could be wrong in my interpretation, however.

What TexasG said - Yao and almost all other Chinese work for the government. It's a hard concept for us to grasp.

I have heard it said that when the old Soviet Union broke down and reorganized, one of the hottest jobs was for accountants. When you had a government controlled system with no profit incentive, there was no need for a P&L statement or balance sheet.

    1. Shanghai Sharks holds ming's contract, but Sharks is willing to release ming to play for a NBA team if gets compensated well. So there's no other issues but money. And Sharks is well aware of CBA.

    2. CBA wants to reserve the right to call ming back playing for National team if nessary. The head of CBA has to step down
if China will fail to qualify for World Cup because ming can not be called back.

    3. Goverment will tax ming's income at 50% rate.

I hope that everyone here can get more clearly picture about it.
