Why does the thought of trading Cat make some happy?

Clutch said, "While any sentence that has "Mobley" as the subject and "traded" as the verb generally gets me excited..."

I am trying to understand why the anti-Cat feeling is so strong?

(For that matter, why are some hateful of Stevie?)

I won't cry if Mobley is traded (in a POSITIVE deal for the Rox), but I would not imagine I'd ever say 'good riddance'.

(I would be furious if Stevie were traded, short of a magnificent Rox deal.)

So, someone please explain to me why the hate for Mobley by, seemingly, many (and the hate for SF by, I suppose, a few).

    Thank you.

Dude, where have you been? Steve passed Mobley a LONG time ago on the hated Rockets list...Hell, he's probably surpassed Pippen by now...

Because many, including Clutch, don't believe Mobley fits into a Yao-Steve offense, and get annoyed when he takes a bunch of bad shots, which he seems to do a lot. I like Mobley, and I think he'll be much better next year with fixed ankles, but a lot of people don't.

As for the Steve Francis bashing, everyone's cranky and frusturated that we haven't made the playoffs in four years, and a lot of posters, myself included, think Francis still has a lot of maturing to do. The team leader will always take a lot of heat. Lakers fans were pissed that Shaq wasn't in shape and postponed toe surgery. Sixers fans think AI needs to take better shots. T'Wolves fans want to know why they're paying Garnett 25mil a season just to get knocked out of the playoffs in the first round every single year. Houston fans took a damn long time to actually be satisfied with the Dream. It's just natural.

I always thought it was a matter of preference. Some people just like dogs more than cats.

I keep believing there must be just a few, tho 'vocal', Stevie haters. Frustrated? Sure. But, Cat? There seems to be so much more widespread hating of him. He's not Kobe or TMac, but he has enough good going for him, with the only bad being he isn't better (and makes poor O decisions).

Frustrated? Sure...but why at Stevie specifically, or Stevie and Cat? Why not at the decisions to pay big time for MoT but to ignor CWebb? To waste time and money on the aged and frail Rice? To not develop their prodigal manchild from the East? Or to not design and coach enough touches (and rest time!) for their prodigal from the Far East?

maybe some people are tired of having 2 shooting guards in the backcourt.

Or they feel he shoots too much.

    Or he doesn't pass enough.

Or his shot selection is awful.

Or the team could use a roster change(ie, an upgrade at 3 or 4, a real pg to move sf to sg, whatever) and he's our most tradeable commodity.

    figure it out.

I am for keeping Mobley unless someone offers the "farm" for him. He represents alot of bang for the buck. Francis is another story.

You've made an argument for trading not for hating.

Cat hating pre-dates Yao. Yao just made it burn the brighter.

    Here's a start :

Cat takes mostly bad shots, outside of any offensive flow. Nevertheless, 45% of the time they go in. Cat hatas hate bad shots. They kill team play, even if they go in.

Cat whines when he doesn't get a foul call, and misses the defensive play on the other end. He abandons his team.

Cat hating is not just a hobby, its a philosophy.

Bottomline Xiki is Mobley just does not have it between the ears on the basketball court. His poor decision making will kill you come playoff time when every possession counts. Alot of posters on this board may disagree but I think Rudy has to take some of the blame with Cuttino's decision making by totally giving him the green light and not benching on bone head plays. Outside of that Mobley is probably one of the top 10 one on one talents in the entire league.

the real bottom line is that mobley is a good player- NOT A GREAT PLAYER.
no reason to hate him. his salary is reasonable for the quality of his game.
just don't expect so much out of him.

    Bingo. We have a winner.

Also, it's simply a matter of duplication. We have Steve, A-Griff, and Pike to play the 2, maybe even Hawkins, depending; and Cat was mentioned in trade rumors on ESPN back in the Paleolithic Era (June). And he's our most tradeable asset, along with EG.

Who knows what JVG wants for the team, though. But if I hear a "Cat-for-Artest" trade rumor (Indy does have a trade exception to offset Artest's BYC), then I'll jump in with the, Hell, yeah! yahoos.

As much as JVG says he sees the 2 and 3 as interchangeable, the truth is, we do need a defensive stopper, a swingman with size. We already have a more talented, if slightly less likeable, version of Cat on the floor.

Truth? I don't hate either Steve or Cat but I know we won't get far with them leading us, unless JVG pulls out a can of Parcells Whup-Ass on them.

You got me there. It's the 'hate' thing that 'gets me', though.

Let Cat go to Indy in a deal including Artest or Harrington, I'll applaud.

Let Cat go in a deal for Eddie Jones, I'll scream very unhappily.

Let Cat go in A deal for Camby, I'll need to see the whole picture.

Cat and Steve are the leaders on the court for this Rocket team. While I support both fully, I believe the leaders have to take the blame for the bad cause they get the credit for the good. Four seasons no playoffs is bad and Cat and Steve get the blame.

I have yet to hate on either but this season is the last for me. If Cat and Steve (especially Steve) don't show they can make good decisions on the court and "lead" this team, then I want to see some personel changes.

Cat needs to head to Miami and join Lamar. For one Cat never has wanted Ming here in Houston and it was very obvious when Cat would motion Ming to move out of the low block every time he had the ball. Cat is too much into stats and looks. I hope he does get traded.

And what i find rather odd is that 4 people are going to get the blame if the Rox dont make it to the playoffs this year... JVG, Yao Ming, Franchise, Cat will all get blame for the Rox not making the playoffs... I find that rather stupid... But it is the truth... Yao will be our leader eventually and francis co and mobley co co captain.. I think i made no sense...
