shaq will be gone in 3 years.
after that, there is no true center in the leauge. duncen can be contained!
why need a center? with odem, franchise, cat, plus a nother good player throught draft, add eddie, we can domiante the west after shaq left. even with cato.
    who needs a center?????/

center is a thing of past, dream, ewing, shaq are all gone, no one comes after them, yao is a big bust, he just a pipe dream of these center crazy people.
the new kids like t-mac, kobe, odem, lebron are the ones going to dominate, center dominating the game is a thing of past!!!
    wake up people!!!

just say no to yao ming, and trade the pick for odem and another pick.

Thats why we need such a versatile player like Yao Ming. He isnt like the old banger under the basket type player! Remember the new 3 second rule!!!

That should be all the more reason to get a player like Ming. If Shaq is gone in 3 years then lets get a leg up on the rest of the competition in the NBA. With no real centers left, the Ming dynasty will begin in Houston!!!!

Why don't you see Ming as a force in the NBA when Shaq is gone? You think there are going to be 7 ft. point guards, shooting guards, and small forwards? Get real....GET MING ALL THE WAY!!! START THE MING DYNASTY!!!

ming could be a BUST. remember that. while odem is a 90% sure thing. plus another draft pick at 8, could mean nene or stoud, with that team, we can also dominate. dominate with ming, who is a 50% bust, or dominate with odem, who is a 90% sure thing, seems a no brainer to me.

Watchman77/QuesoGrande (same person???) - getting worried. Hehe.

Seriously, with Shaq gone Ming will have lots of opportunities in the middle.

Until then only *1* team has Shaq.

ming is NEVER going to be as dominate as shaq. why we even need him? it is almost the same with ming or with odem, except ming has a 50% of bust in him, while odem only 10%.
this just seems a smarter and better basketball pick.

Like some others alread said, with no true Centers left once Shaq retires, that gives the Rockets even more reason to go after Ming. Look at it this way, Ming could be as far above the other C's in the league as Shaq is today.

Is the 10% Odoms 19% 3pt shooting that makes him a bust? Or is it his 3.3 turnovers per game? Or possibly is it his 5 NBA drug test failures that would qualify? Oh, how about his great 65% free throw shooting? How bad does he have be to be a bust?

Your logic is funny. Keep it comin :) I actually think Watchmen77 wants Ming and is throwing up all these ludicrous ideas to convince everybody.

The only way Shaq will be gone in 3 years is if he retires, becomes paralyzed, or dies. If these occurences do not take place, then he will just as dominant then as he is now.

superkev how can u even use that as evidence to why odom would be bust? he played 29 games and was injured the rest of the season. maybe u should use the stats from when he acutally played a full season in 2000-2001 where in 76 games he led his team in scoring (17 pts a game) , rebounding (almost 8 rbs a game), and was second in assists with 5.2. o ya and he was 46% from the field. ill give u the bad ft%, 3pt%, and a lot of turnovers but atleast two of those can easily be fixed. to tell u the truth ur logic is funny using stats from a season where a guy is injured and doesnt even play a whole year.

AzCkr, a '10%' chance at a bust was the context. I contend its much, much higher with his many issues. And as you pointed out injuries are a factor as well in the 10% bust column. How many drug tests do you have to fail to get past a 10% chance at a bust - 10 times? 15? How many wasted seasons due to injury?
He would have a blast with Mo Taylor.

BTW, the only reason for the 5 assists was due to the Clips system with LO with the ball in his hands often, the Rocks have a ball handler - in fact more than one.

The truth is Ming is said to have no personal problems, Ming is a high percentage shooter, Ming has a great work ethic. Ming can hit a free throw. Where does this 50% bust percentage come from?

It should be more like 60% bust chance for LO and 20% for Ming.

"Why do we even need a center?"

I wonder if Steve and Cat think that way. Sometimes they act like it.

"Why do we even need a center?"

Because our team, much as we love it, sucks. Healthy players or no, we need a big guy, especially in the West.

Also, our attendance. Guess what? It sucks. Ming would help us improve in that area, drastically.

I am glad watchmen77 is not Rockets coach or a staff. He seems to think he knows more than them.

"shaq will be gone in 3 years." -- I like this part, but again that may be wishful thinking, too.

    Don't worry. Be happy.

Yao Ming, Yao Ming, Yao Ming!

    Kobe + Center = Title
    Kobe - Center = ?
McGrady - Center = early Exit
Odom + Kandi = no playoffs
    Lebron + Cavs = Punishment
    Lebron - Center = ?

U know what is sad. . . . You did not put our beloved STEVIE in your list
Logic dictates. GOOD PLAYER + Center > GOOD PLAYER - CENTER
