The fans at the compaq center must really be in love with the Rockets with all the close games that they've been entertained with. When the Rox play good teams, they play better and take the game to the wire. When the Rox play crappy teams, they play down to their competition. Mo said that when they get their backs to the wall, then they really get a wakeup call and start playin better. That may be true, but they CANNOT keep on doing this! Sooner or later, they will lose the game. If MO doesn't catch fire, or Marbury's shot doesn't clank off, then you never know how this game would have turned out. They had a pretty decent lead until they left Newman open for 3 threes from the same spot. How many games have there been where the Rockets actually end up winning by a pretty big lead? It seems like there's very few. Even against the good teams, when we're up, we tend to lose our focus. Remember Dallas earlier this year? 30 point lead that we almost ended up losing. And more recently, Phoenix, where we had a 15 pt lead and lost it, although the refs were partially to blame. I love watchin the Rox pull out a close game, and I guess one good thing is that it gives them confidence when they perform in CRUNCHTIME. But, they HAVE to learn to keep a lead. They play best with their backs against the walls, but they need to realize when the other team (especially a crappy team like new jersey) starts taking control and takes a lead, that they need to step it up right there and not wait till they are down by 6 or 8. Good game tho. ------------------ PrEsident of The Danforth Langhford FAN CLUB... He IS our future All-Star Small Forward [This message has been edited by alaskansnowman (edited March 15, 2001).]
They just want to be like the champion Rockets, never letting you relax. They were just like this back in those days. It was especially difficult for me. I had to leave the house for about an hour, and I had to leave with 1:25 left in the game and the Nets up 1. I HAD TO WAIT A FRICKEN HOUR, BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO WATCH THE TAPE OF THE LAST MINUTE! Crunch time usually takes a while, but a FRICKEN HOUR? Wow! What an amazing shot by Moochie! ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
Actually, if you will recall that stretch of games that we went through when Hakeem really starting getting his game going... when we went like 8 of 9 or something, broken up by that Orlando loss, and preceded by that aweful Clippers loss, we were beating teams by an average of 15 points. The Rockets can blow teams out, and have proven it this year, they just haven't against the last two inferior opponents... big deal. It goes down in the book as a win, and that is all that matters. ------------------ "all your base are belong to us!" "you have no chance to survive make your time!"
I think I am going to have grey hairs by the time Im 25. The games are so stressul they give me a headache. ------------------
Ugh, I'm going to die before I'm 30 if that's the case. I'm sure I've already lost 15 years off my life thanks to the theatrics of the Rockets. That said, I hope this team can learn to kill, maim, and destroy teams in the fourth quarter. Hopefully, we can chalk this up to the novelty of playing in games that actually matter at this point in the season... and in the coming years, the team will close the door on any comebacks once they're up by a bunch. Is it just me, or do the Rockets (or Rudy) move away from a motion offense in the fourth quarter and go to the iso immediately? Yes, I complain about the iso, but tonight's game seemed like the perfect example. The Rockets were running the floor extremely well, and then there was a point in the fourth quarter where they went back to selfish basketball. ------------------
Well, the Rockets were blowing out teams when the had Hakeem healthy. And then to lose Francis to injury, its tough to win big when your best player and starting center, who was averaging a double-double, don't play. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. Believe.
Puedlfor: I agree that it is tough to win w/out Hakeem and Steve, but they had the game in their hands. They were up by 10 or so, until their defense completely collapsed. And against Indiana, they had Stevie but they still went into triple overtime. And don't forget about Atlanta, Golden State, and the Clippers also. We ended up winning by 10 or so against the Clips, but I believe that it was a very close game where the Clips were up big in the 4th before our usual run. But Mo TAylor said it himself... The Rockets have to get their backs against the walls before they start playing like they're capable of. They need to stop playin down to their competition. ------------------ PrEsident of The Danforth Langhford FAN CLUB... I actually think we needed these last few games. It will help big time when we are down by 6 or 10 with 3-5 min to go against SA, Sac, or UTH in next week games or first round of the playoff. The Roxs will remember how they pulled it out and have the confidence to do it again. I just love our defense this week when the game was on the line (except against Suns). That was impressive. ------------------ Tennessee is a suburb of Houston. Go Oilers....
Yeah, we need to take a lesson from the Bulls back when they could win 72 games a season. You beat your opp in the first, then you beat em again in the second. Then you beat em again in the third. And you don't let up in the fourth. No slacking off because you have a 10 point lead. Keep on beating them until they know they've lost, and if there's still time on the clock, beat em some more. ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
