Is man defense foreign to them?

Switching became popular under Thibs, I believe, and the Heat were pretty notorious using it in the Lebron era under Spoelstra. If you got guys who can guard multiple positions then it can work well. As with most things... it's finding a balance.

You do realize they were playing their best defense of the season the last few games, right

When Haren loses his man and the enemy scores in the paint - our bigs look bad, so it's a bad situation for everyone involved.

Sometimes I download games and rewind every possession where an enemy score easy points to see how they do it. And pretty much every damn time it's Haren losing his man that leads to it. It's really a huge issue that needs to be talked about more. Haren's lack of defense is literally killing this team. He'd put an effort when we play on national TV to save his brand, to fool non Rockets fans, what a douche. Many people around the league are still thinking he's an MVP candidate this season based on numbers, because no one watches Rockets, they just look at points scored, rebounds for a guard and assists. Haren is among league leaders in those, so he must be legendary, right?
    No.
I mean COME ON! Our starting lineup has Beverley, Ariza, Howard and Capela. These are ELITE defenders of NBA. But there's a 5th guy with them... Haren. One guy makes 4 elite defenders look like trash, makes Rockets defense look like trash. One guy. How bad one guy be on defense? Really bad. I tell ya. Haren is the devil. He found a glitch in matrix. He's abusing that glitch. He sold his soul to the satan to make him look who he is not in front of people's eyes.

What's funny is that this is absolutely true. Harden is my fav player of all time but watching him play Defense is cringeworthy. It's not as if he's being screened - he just loses his man. It happens quite often actually. Almost every play.

At one point you say 'Haren' plays defense sometimes to confuse people to make them think he plays defense.

And at another point you say Beverley is an elite defender.

Beverley hasn't even been playing good defense sometimes like 'Haren' has. So how do you claim Beverley is not only a good defender, but ELITE??

Sorry, but Beverley has not been a good defender for a very, very long time.

So maybe you should start rewinding and watch Beverley a lot more closely too.

    Pathetic post.

For the record, we neither switched nor trapped Fournier on his game winner drive in ORL game. Bev went over the pick and Howard stayed with Vucevic. And Fournier got around Bev.

    fchowd0311,

I know you were saying the very same thing in the Game Thread during the second Q (I think). Did you start this thread before that last play and jinx us? We did exactly what you wanted and got burned.

Btw, switching is part of man defense, and so is trapping/doubling. I guess you mean playing straight-up D.

Do you also know that there are more ways to play defense now that illegal defense was eradicated? And I don't mean zone. Traps out high are now much more lethal than before, because you can bring help (a 3rd man) into the lane or FT line area and still have two guys on the baseline. This is actually exactly what teams are doing to Harden, which is why we see less drives from him this year. Same goes for switching.

NBA defenses are doing more switches and traps than ever before to stop this era of elite Wing Scorers. It's actually quit awesome for me to watch. That's what the Bucks did to GSW both games, and watch the Spurs do it to Curry as well. GSW also loves to trap a lot, too, with Green roaming.

A lot of what is happening now with NBA defenses would have been Illegal Defense before.

I said that Beverley was bad defender last year and people didn't agree. Now I say Beverley is an elite defender this year yet you don't agree. He IS elite defender at PG. Who are better at PG than him? And don't go lookin at steals made by point guards. Just like rebounds isn't defense, so aren't steals. Defense is what happens in between rebounds and steals.

Not Westbrook. He's a bad defender, has very similar mental lapses to haren.
