About things where they are definitely going to be caught or where it is easy to look up? I know somebody who just lies constantly. Adding facts to stories, making up articles they've read, etc. It's things that don't really gain them anything except maybe the high ground in an argument for a minute or two, but I always am able to look it up and realize they have lied. It just seems silly to me that some people lie about things so habitually that they lie about things where they gain very little and where their lie is easily exposed. (Example: Black woman with kids on this BBS)
different people lie for different reasons. Some do it as a method of manipulation. By controlling what information you receive, they feel that they have a certain control over you. Others do it because of insecurity - they want to be perceived as being "better" than they really are.
