I'm writing a term paper for my English class, and the media specialist (that's the politically correct term for librarian, I guess) as well as the teacher always tells us to make sure we have reliable sources, especially from the web. Ok, fair enough.

So today I get an email saying for every website we cite, we have to fill out a form and print it out, by tomorrow. So I'm stuck, filling out this form while I rant here, and it just occured to me, I have about a dozen websites, and I have to fill out and print a form for everyone.

Here's where I really get mad, all of my websites are ethier pages from reputable and accredited universities, newpapers or newsites, or are from a formal IGO (in this case the Organizition for Economic Cooperation and Development).

Why should I have to waste twelve pieces of paper on forms she's going to barely skim over when it's pretty obvious that the information from my sources is not garbage?

    /rant

Sounds like you're almost done. Suck it up. Much better things in life to be mad about.

I was hoping no one would say that :(.

Seriously, I don't get it, I'm trying to write a paper, not buy a gun. Why do I have to fill out so much ******* paper work! An even better question, why don't I do what Dave suggests and just finish it?

Reminds me of my first office job after college, where just making it to 5 o'clock was a challenge. Around 3:30, I'd start thinking to myself, 'how do people do this all day?' All that time in college I was complaining about how many pages I had to read, how much I had to write, how much time I spent studying -- I didn't know **** about getting stuff done, being thorough, checking my work, etc. If I went to college now, I would clean up (and still have plenty of time to get drunk).

But, what's up with printing the form? That seems like a useless waste of paper.

humans are stupid, thats why. we have to appeal to the lowest common denominator. most of the laws that exist and forms we fill out are because some idiot did something that ruined it for the rest of us.

First, abide by the rules. AFTER you abide by them, go and question them. Who is responsible for making this silly rule? What can you or other students do to contribute to possibly make this better for everyone? If you truly are upset about something like this, just speak out against it... but you can't avoid having to complete your work.
    Well said, sir.

    See hoop. Jump through hoop.

Hate to call it a character building exercise but it is. The guy who jumps through the most hoops and does it with a smile on his face is the guy that gets promoted.

Positive spin on your situation, its an opportunity to demonstrate that your sources are legit. I'm sure some of your classmates did a lazy job and either plagiarized or quoted TMZ. Right now they're either frantically searching for new sources or will take a bad grade on it. You 1 Them 0.

Show some pride kid. You know you did good work and now you get to prove it.

Wow I don't remember ever filling out forms for papers. I've always thought a Work Cited or a Bibliography page was enough. Besides most people I knew just summarized pages they read and didn't even cite.

Ding, ding, ding we have a winner! In the real world the more crap you can put up with without losing your cool the more likely you will get promoted. It's not that you're a great worker, you're an idiot rat on the wheel like everyone else, you just outlive all of your coworkers who die of stress and you get promoted by default. My suggestion? Go work someplace where everyone is much older than you and wait for heart attacks and strokes.

Betcha can't wait to graduate and get a wheel of your very own huh?;)
