Why do people felt question Kerry's service and his action after wards so much

I still don't get why people make such a big deal about his actions post war and during war so much. To me his action makes perfect logical sense.

    1. He was patriotic and joined the war, thinking he was spreading democracy. He loved his country and bought into the government propaganda at that time.

    2. He went into war, saw first hand how wrong it was (with the illegal steam boat missions and such) and realized people were lying.

    3. He came back from the war realizing what the government was doing and spoke out against it, warning others to not make the same mistakes he did.

To me it's similar to the Movie anti trust.

    1. Kid joins software company thinking that it was a good company and he can be usefu in it.

    2. He realize they used illegal/immoral means and motives to get the codes.

    3. Kid lashes out against the company.

In all honesty, who do you expect to criticize the vietnam war more heavily? Those in power but away from the front lines or those actually involved in the war?

I'm more interested in Kerry's anti-defense voting record in his time as a Senator. It seems to be more along the lines of telling us what he'd do as a President.

Voting for the use of action (even if only as a threatening diplomacy tool), then voting against funding the troops properly while in battle was after 9/11?

    Ummm, nope.

I think his record of votes/statements about Iraq war are as follows:
for, for, against, for, against, against, against, against, against, against... but don't quote me...

btw- much of that on the link is from the congressional record.

    Umm....let us see here...

    1) Lied about battle related wounds and battle related incidents
    2) Gamed the system to leave Vietnam as early as possible, and in so doing left many men behind
    3) Carried around a camcorder and re-enacted battle scenes in some type of ridiculous, self-serving mock war to advance his political career
    4) Kept a personal diary, many entries which would address #1, but again in a self-serving mission of accomplishing his political goals in the future. Basically he used service as a career advancement ploy and nothing more. Pat Tillman is probably rollng over in his grave right now at the mere thought of something so atrocious.
    5) Wrote many after action reports which embellished his actions. Many of these reports form the basis of the one-sided incomplete records which now are up on his website.
    6) Returned to the United States and promptly proceeded to desecrate and throw away US medals. In fact, they were thrown AT the Capitol building as a show of defiance. He disgraced those who came before him.
    7) Wrote a book that mocked the Iwo Jima memorial on the cover and lied and accused his fellow troops of committing war crimes.
    8) Lied before Congress and helped turn public support against the troops.
    9) Provided the Vietnamese with information (lies) which were used to TORTURE American POWs.

Then he decides to make his abbreviated four month stint in Vietnam the basis of his Presidential run. I repeat myself: It's like cheating on a test, making a C, then bragging that you made an A. It's disgusting. John Kerry made this an issue, and no one else. He chose to say "Reporting for Duty" to lead off his speech at the DNC. He chose to drag the small minority of Swiftees who support him to the stage in Boston. He chose to make Rassman a public relations prop. He chose to mention Vietnam in every answer to every question. You dug your own grave, Flipper.

No he voted to fund those troops. He voted to use Bush's wreckless tax cuts to do so. He voted against a bill which didn't specify how the money going to Iraq was going to be spent. Kerry voted against it but the bill passed. Money appropriated to Iraq was fraudulently taken in by Haliburton. First they were over charging for gas, and their rip off schemes got so bad that the Pentagon finally refused to pay them, until they revised thei expenses.

Considering Kerry wanted accountability for the money, and without it we, the taxpayer have been ripped off by Haliburton, I'm glad that Kerry was looking out for me as a taxpayer. I wish more congressmen would have done the same thing.

TJ, where did you find the proof for your claims? Most of them seem to come from the swifties which have already been shown to be untrustworthy and contradicting their reports at the time of the war.

As for number 9 show me where they tortured POW's based on Kerry's information. I had heard that they played Kerry's testimony to POW's, but as monotone as his voice might be, that doesn't constitute torture.

Bill Mar brought up a good point to me:
Why is it BAD to decide one way . . .with some information . .
. then get more information and change your mind?

GWB suported the Vietnam War but did not dare to actually serve there. (flip flop)

GWB's dad used his connections to get GWB into the Texas National Guard. GWB says no strings were pulled (and thus he is grossly stupid or a very bad lier, you pick)

GWB said he wanted to fly planes just like his dad, with the implication that he did not want to get shot down in a war theater like his dad. GWB's plane flying convictions were so strong that he lost his flight status for refusing to take a physical (probably because he would have been busted for his coke use). GWB has never publicly addressed why he failed to take the physical.

After losing his flight status, GWB transfered to Alabama National Guard and proceeded not to report. GWB says he reported (more lying), but his record does not show it and no people remember him reporting.

Later, GWB claims while running for public office said that he was in the Air Force. This was during his drinking years, so it must have been the booze talking.

This is not a conversation that GWB wants to be having. Bring it on.

Maybe I'm reading that wrong, but i don't know how that is a flip flop. I support this war, and I'm not fighting in it.. You can support a war without fighting in it..

I was thinking the same thing.. It was more along the lines of being scared to go and trying to avoid it. Which is a perfectly normal human reaction.

A flip-flop, to me, is something more along the lines of one day saying "I don't think you can ever win a war on terror", then, after getting some heat for it, saying the next day: "We will win the war on terror".

What if there were a draft like during the Vietnam War? If you supported the war, would you actively avoid the draft? Would you support the war just as long as it did not mean you geting your *ss shot at?

It is called putting your money where your mouth is.

His words did not match his actions, making his words gratuitous. Flip flop.

Unless he actually said. I am going to go overseas and fight in Vietnam.. . I just don't see it as a flip flop..

I just think that even if you didn't actually fight.. you can call it other things.. I just don't see how its a flip flop..

To answer your question.. if there was a draft... yes I'd go.. I'm sure I'd be scared, no doubt about that,.. but I'd go

Flip: being on one side/supporting one side of an issue
Flop: then supporting the other side

    For example:

A politician campaigns in the midwest, saying he supports family values and is against gay marriage.

The next day he is seen campaigning in San Francisco, walking in a gay rights parade and saying he will support their issues in congress.

If Bush had said that he wanted to go fight in Vietnam, and then tried to get assigned into the Maine Coast guard, that would be a flip flop. Capisce?

With all the charges, real, and made up, flying around, why has this not been made a big issue? Why doesn't Kerry, the next time someone with a major news outlet asks him about his service in Vietnam, and his actions after, why doesn't he bring this up in the strongest possible terms?

Why doesn't he? Bush has no credible answer for it. None.

It's called having some class. But I guess class doesn't win elections.

To take the focus away from the real issues that's why.
