Why do our stars suck at getting injured correctly?

Fans here seems to lament a lot about the Rockets' inability to win the past decade or so. But to me that hasn't been the problem. The problem, of course, is their inability to lose correctly. Specifically, the lack of ability for their stars to take one for the team correctly.

    Example 1:

Getting the #1 pick in 2002. The Rockets failed greatly here. What an embarrassment. Steve Francis just had to go down in the wrong year. He could've done so in 2003, or done so in both 2002 and 2003. But NOOOOO... He ONLY chose to go down for the year in 2002.

    Example 2:

Getting the #8 pick in 2006. This time, we sucked one year too late. Imagine if T-Mac and Yao had their double fail in 2005, and CD may have understood the goodness of the draft to ask JVG to fail, and we may have ended up with the #6 pick that year. And you might remember, Utah got the 6th pick that year, and traded up to #3 with Portland for more or less peanuts, and they rebuilt instantly.

    Results

The Rockets could've fielded this lineup: Mutumbo+Scola+Lebron+T-Mac+Deron Williams/CP3. Instead they got one playoff win in 13 years.

    Conclusion

Morey needs to understand, and get Les to understand, the timing of sucking. Timing is everything. And we sucked at it. Our championship team failed to materialize not because our stars were injured, but WHEN they were injured.

Exactly, once again, the Spurs outclass Houston with a perfectly timed 1997 tank job laying the foundation for a dominant decade.

    The Wizards landed John Wall.

    The Wizards.

If that doesn't say anything to you then you won't understand how the NBA works.

    Lebron a Rocket? lol

It actually doesn't say anything to me, is this some weirdo "Stern rigs the lottery!" argument?

Really, you only need one good tanks. CP3, Deron Williams, Durant, Wade, Lebron, Dwight Howard(despite getting jack squat in the T-Mac trade in hindsight).... Why not us? Because our management needs to take lessons from the Texans on the skill of situational fail.

    Dwight Howard to Orlando.
    Duncan to SA.
    Durant to OKC.
    Griffin to the Clips
Nobody to the Knicks(multiple good lottery positions)
Nobody to the Celtics(including the infamous Duncan miss)

Seriously, you really want to play this game?

There's always a sleeper, and Morey was hired to find them. It's too late for the Rockets to win a a top three pick, because there are around 12 teams with worse records, and some of them really suck big time, so another season will pass without getting a high draft pick, which probably means another mid round "NBA ready" selection that rots at the end of our bench or gets sent to the D League. Exciting.

What gets me, really gets me, is Minny. At the end of the season, neither Houston or Minny will have won the 2010/2011 Championship, but at least they're favorites to get a top three pick, which will make their disappointing season a bit more tolerable. Not us, though, we'll be drafting about ten spots below them, simply because our owner and GM don't want to temporarily suck. Far better to win 45 games every year than to tank and take a chance on drafting a superstar, because only "losers" do that.

Maybe Morey can make another miracle happen. Les saw his team trade for Clyde, Steve, and T-Mac, not to mention Charles. Perhaps he thinks he doesn't need to have a top three pick to build around. I hope he's right.

Rockets weren't favored to win the 2002 draft. I think they were something like less than 2 percent.

    Edit. 8.9 percent.

Even if we had all of those players you don't know if we could of won a championship. Due to the teams they were drafted to they developed to the players they are today. Even if we did drafted let's say Deron Williams, he might not have developed to the dynamic player he is now or he might have not developed at all and became a bust.

So that one day, the Rockets can have as good a playoff record as the Texans, who have NEVER lost a playoff game!
