I dont see why so many people seem to hate on EG! he has potential but you also gotta wait! Most of yall alredy want him traded!
I think the problem is a tean can not build solely on "potentials". If you settle on Yao, you need some players that are reliable when you wait for Yao to improve. Granted EG has potential, he will be traded at the value of his potential. It is like trading stocks, a firm being promising doesn't necessarily mean you have to hold it, because its stock price may have incorparted in the future growth potential and thus overpriced.
My take on Griffin: I have high expectation of Griffin before this season. But now I think it's pretty clear that he can never be a superstar franchise player. I won't give him up though because I think he can still develop into a solid contributor, maybe even an All-Star. And I think the reason why so many people bashed him (if that's the case) is because they had high expectation of him in the 1st place and now they felt very disappointed that he could not live up to their unrealistic expectation. So I think we all just need to lower our expectation of him then we all would feel much better and wouldn't bash him so much. The following is an ESPN analyst's take on Griffin and I pretty much agreed with him.
My thing with Eddie Griffin is this yr, I was expecting him to abandon the 3pt shot and become a more reliable inside scorer. The reason why his inside play is poor is because his footwork is horrible. Of course he will never be Hakeem in the post, but he can get better. If he just get the jump hook down and put on some weight, he can be a solid player for this team. The problem is, how long are we to wait?Best case scenerio for griffin is Donyell Marshall. If I had the chance to get Brand or SAR, I'd give him up in a heartbeat, otherwise, I'll stick with him.
well...i never saw Eddie becoming a super star/ franchis player, but he will be a big contributer to what ever team he is on. Eddie has great potential, young, and talented, and has really long arms.
We are expecting too much from a 20yr. old 'Kid' He needs time and space to develop. He needs a point Guard that helps him develop. He needs better coaching. He needs to spend an off season with Moses Malone, then you will see the real Eddie!
People are bashing Eddie because they're impatient, and they expected him to be better than Tim Duncan, for some reason. Eddie was a great rebounder and shot blocker in college, and I think he can be that in the NBA, if he gets stronger. I don't think he'll really every be a great offensive player, though. Frankly, I'd be satisfied if he could just hit an open 15 footer. We've got enough scorers, if the other guys can hit open shots.
http://nbadraft.net/profiles/eddiegriffin.htm that was the scouting report on eddie griffin. the report looks good on him. i don't hate eddie. actually i hope he succeeds. he's a promising young player. guy's only 20 years old. reserve judgement on him till he's 25.
Here is the reason: Hate is a sin! Adam has sinned! We are the descendant of Adam! We have sin! So, we hate.
That scouting report is not very accurate. I see no similarity between Griffin and Duncan other than maybe both being emotionless.
the scouting reports are not perfect obviously. they compared yao ming to rik smits and eddie griffin to tim duncan. bs. but still eddie griffin is still one of the best young players in the league. i remember reading an article on jermaine o'neal saying how he made a lot of stupid defensive mistakes, and how some people in the pacers organization used to call jermaine o'neal and johnathan bender and al harrington high school motherf*ckas cause they were immature and made stupid mistakes at times, but as time went by, they showed their talent.
In normal circumtances, it takes 2-3 years to get a true idea of what a player can do. That is assuming good seasoning in college, whereas Eddie only spent one year in school. This kid might not be KG or Duncan, but he will be the other side of the Great Wall in Houston. I think that he also has a huge unrealized potential in the low post. As he bangs with the big guys night in and night out and puts on some weight, he is eventually going to be All-Defensive team and perhaps an All-Star (although Dallas found out how hard it is getting 3 on the A.S. team and Steve and Yao are going to play in that game a long time). Remember, he has also been getting steals over the past few games. I personally love Eddie and hope he is blocking shots in Houston for a long time.
