Why do 60 second time-outs last 2-3 minutes?

    I don't get it, when there is a 60 second timeout, it takes them 2-3 minutes to get back on the floor....i've always wondered why that is...

    Are the 20 second timeouts still 20 seconds? I never really cared to count.

    Also, I remember when they would call timeouts during a tense situation (end game usually) and they never went to commercial. Now it seems they always do and it just kills the moment in my opinion. I want to see whats going on not how to save money on my insurance. NBA on NBC was good at keeping you in the action during these moments

    So go to the game. Tickets are cheap enough.
    With a season ticket I never have to worry about commercials @home
