Why didn't we make a run at Brevin Knight last summer?

I remember he was the second leading assist man in the league last year with almost 10 assists per game. This past summer, he was a free agent, and Charlotte just drafted Rey Felton to be their pg of the future.

I am just wondering, why didn't we make a run at Brevin Knight? We had our pg problem since Sura got hurt, and we had to give up Mike James to get Rafer Alston. How come we never pay any interest to the second leading assist man in the league? Yes, he's 30 years old, but look at us, our team's role players are composed of 30 years old guys. Also, why wasn't Knight the hot commodity in the free agent market throughout the league? Are there any legal deficiencies in his game?

Charlotte pratically re-signed him for nearly the full MLE and he's officially 5'10 (but maybe shorter in real life)

Sura's injury did not come to surface until closer to season start, by that time, he might have signed already.

Despite his great play making skills, he is a liability in defense and has no 3-point shot what-so-ever. Would be great for a back up though.

    Let's see....

Using the full MLE to add Knight to a list which included Sura, Mike James, Luther Head and Moochie on a team where the SG and SF often initiate the offense

    or

Using the full MLE to secure a PF in a group which included a heart condition recovering Juwan, Clarence Weatherspoon and a player (Padgett) whom we weren't likely to re-sign because we only had Early Bird Rights...

    Gosh, that's a tough one. :D

The deficiencies I'm aware of are lack of 3 point range and fragility. He commonly spends as much time sitting with injury as he does playing(averages about 58 games a season). That, I think, would be the main red flag. I don't agree that he is a liability on defense, though I've only been able to see him play a handful of times. Last season and so far this season he's been getting 2+ steals a game. Career steal average of 1.8. When I have seen him play he's always seemed to have quick feet on both offense and defense.
