Why didn't we just get Collison and then trade Brooks?

Collison is a better passer and a better defender.

Brooks is probably at this point a better player but he is just an SG in a PG's body.

Collison would have been under club control for twice as long, not to mention he is 3 years younger.

Collison averaged more assists than Brooks did in 8 less minutes.

We really could have kept Collison to ourselves, then traded Brooks, Budinger, Jeffries, Patterson or Hill, and the Knicks picks to Indiana for Granger.

    Collison/Lowry
    Martin/Taylor
    Granger/Battier
    Scola/Patterson or Hill
    Yao/Miller

which is a better team than what we have right now.

Did we really draft Bostjan Nachbar over Tayshaun Prince? Can anyone confirm this?

Your giving up way too much for an overrated Granger.

    1. Money > talent
    2. Hornets did not want to help their division rival.

Not totally sure what this refers to (Posey's contract is over $13M), but anyway, the Rockets didn't want James Posey's contract. Collison + bad contract is just not worth it when you have Brooks who is a better player right now anyway.

You could try to trade Brooks, but for who? What deal was on the table? Nothing. And if you don't manage to trade him, did you just pay Kyle Lowry $6M/yr to be a second back-up? It just doesn't make sense at all.

Fortunately, our GM doesn't base his decisions on wild theories or ideas like yourself (getting Granger).

Edit: Ah, referring to luxury tax and Ariza/Lee contract difference savings.

This. It would have required them to take on James Posey's salary.

I'd much rather have Courtney Lee backing up Kevin Martin than Collison backing up Lowry.

Face it, Collison was not gonna start on our ball club. Lowry is the superior player and Brooks is just that good to start on our team.

Plus, I love Lee. He brings everything to the table, offense and defense.

People don't get it, we finally have a legit, durable, and proven SG to backup injury prone Martin! We don't have to rely on Brooks playing heavy minutes at the 2 and having Budinger play in his unnatural position! Plus it's gonna be fun not having to play Taylor on Kobe anymore.

How many rookies come into the league and are given the job of guarding the best player on the planet on the grandest stage of them all?

Ever since the Finals, I've been in love with Lee's all around game. Too bad Orlando traded him for a washed up, injury prone Carter. I think he would have done better against the Celtics than Carter. At least Lee is active enough to guard a player like Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo.

How come we didn't get Danny Granger or Andre Iguodala instead of Lee?

1.) Brooks is a better player.
2.) Our system is designed around the center being the focus of the offense and open looks being created by the attention drawn to the paint.
3.) Our system is not meant to have one ball dominant wing player who uses his talent to create open looks.
4.) Assist number comparisons are irrelevant due to the nature of our system and the types of players that surrounded each player when those stats were measured.
5.) Brooks is a PG, not a SG.
6.) Getting Collison required taking back Posey which puts us deep into luxury tax territory. Alternatively, we now have Lee who filled a huge position of need, while also adding a trade exception which could potentially be used to add even another piece (think what the Jazz had to do last year), without having to take back poison contracts.
7.) Using "acquiring Granger" in some baseless speculatory trade does not help your argument. Obviously adding Granger to this team makes it better.

A player comes to my mind - Ramon Sessions. I remembered he had some very nice games when he was a buck. When he had a 20+ assists game, people were crazy about him. Some people here suggested to trade Brooks for him. Right now, he came back down to earth in timberwolves. Same applies to Collison. I am not saying Collison won't be better than Sessions or Brooks. But it's not convincing enough to trade the proven PG for a rookie who just had a great season. This is just my 2 cents.
