We sure could've scooped him instead of brian cook. He would've been that Back up center we were looking for. I really like his game

No offense, but if you can't figure that out for yourself, then I kinda feel sorry for you.

Cook is owed a lot more money, and the deal probably doesn't go through unless we accept taking him off Orlando's hands.

I remember one of the initial reports was that we got Foyle instead of Cook. That would have been nice right about now.

We'll be back to praising Morey's genius when he turns Cook's expiring contract into gold next season. :D

    Alright...3 things.

    1. Marcin Gortat is a serviceable 7 foot backup center who has performed extremely well when he's had to start.

    2. Brian Cook is an inefficient, trigger happy, 6'9" tweener whose best role is taking up a spot on the disabled list. He's like Rashard Lewis after a lobotomy.

    3. I'm pretty sure both teams were aware of the above information.

I wanted Foyle too, despite having Deke but I wasn't surprised when his name wasn't in the list.

Maybe we could get Gortat this offseason and that Deke is retiring will take about 1 mill off, Gortat being a restricted Free Agent but I have a strong feeling Orlando is gonna fight for him to come back after what he did when Dwight got suspended. Just my 2 cents.

True. But Orlando desperately needed a point guard and all they had to do was trade a low first rounder in a reportedly weak draft and some scrubs, one of whom (Foyle) they got back. Say what you want about Rafer, but the Magic got an extremely good deal. They didn't have to give up squat.

Foyle went to Memphis in the deal and was later cut which cleared his return to the Magic.

As far as the Rockets are concerned, we got the best PG in the deal (younger, more aggressive to the basket, top 10 player in the league on fouls drawn per shot attempt, very good mid range shooter, etc.). It's very hard to get an NBA deal to go through...especially a 3-team trade, so if you covet one player (Lowry) and you've got a chance to get him, it's probably best to take the deal and be done with it. Pushing for something to sweeten the deal (Gortat over Cook) could have brought it all crashing down, regardless of how desperate the Magic might have been been.

It was definitely a deal Orlando had to make because of their injury situation, but next year, when they get their starting PG back, Orlando may be thinking that they're overpaying for their backup. Still, not too bad given the circumstances.

The Rockets wanted to get out of Alston's contract, and from their POV, they exchanged it for a similar-sized but shorter contract in Cook's.

Oops, never mind. Both contracts end after next seaon. My mistake.

Because Gortat is actually a useful player to Orlando instead of some salary filler?

The Polish Hammer is a good player, and I expect him to get a pretty good deal as a FA, probably to be a starter somewhere-- or at least have a chance to be.

The Polish Hammer is going to get at least the full MLE. He was unhappy about his playing time, role on offense earlier on in the season. I'm sure there'll be a team that'll take a chance on him as their starting C.

Also the Rockets don't have the salary space:

The League's hypothetical 2009-10 luxury tax figure is $69.4M

Why didn't we get Howard in the Rafer deal? We got ripped.
