Why didn't the anouncer say the player's last names?

Yeah, I too missed the intros. It seems all of Houston and myself forgot what football traffic was.

Umm... this wasn't football traffic. This was unreal. There were people turned away from the cash only lot at 4:15 in the afternoon. There were several people that went home because they couldn't get in a lot, or risked getting towed and parked at Fiesta.

I went with some family to the game tonight... we got relatively near the stadium (on Main) at about 5:30. At 6:30, since I wasn't the driver, some of us got out of the car in the middle of Main and walked what seemed like miles to the stadium. Everyone else wasn't in the stadium until about 8:30, three hours after being near the parking lots.

The Texans are absolutely going to have to come up with a shuttle system. The shuttle system actually worked very well at the Rodeo when everyone had to use it... there's no excuse why the Texans can't have an effective shuttle for about a third of the crowd. I will definitely be using it the next time.

BTW, on the intros, I thought the crowd did a decent job yelling out the last names, though I don't really like the "tradition". A couple of things I thought were funny: the guys with the flags that spelled out Texans came out of the tunnel like this: T-X-E-A-N-S. Also, the message board that was trying to translate the PA announcer said some funny stuff sometimes.

On the game, I was really impressed with David Carr. Forget the numbers; the receivers were just awful tonight. Jermaine dropped about two balls that hit him right in the hands, and Bradford should've had one in the third quarter that he tipped to the defense for an interception. He was under pressure all game, and he made some really smart decisions. Outside of the one INT late in the third, he never really forced anything.
Sometimes he just ran for a few yards; others he just took the safe pass. But Dave seems really smart for a rookie. And the throw to Corey Bradford... WOW. That was one of the more amazing throws I've seen in years. I mean, Carr was under some pressure, and he hit Bradford completely in stride 65 yards down the field. The possession before, he almost hit Gaffney in stride about 50 yards down the field on what appeared to be a busted play.

I know, after the last two games, that a lot of people will be on the doom and gloom bandwagon and predict 3 or 4 wins. However, I am sticking with at least 6 wins. I like what I've seen. The Texans haven't put together the total package yet, but they have had several very impressive spurts, and I think that with a little bit more practice and timing they will start to put it together. Assuming Gaffney replaces Jermaine in the starting lineup, I like our passing game. Carr seems to be different from the typical rookie... he's not as mistake prone. He has a great arm, and Bradford really seems poised for a breakout season.

At RB, we're obviously weak, but if Wells gets the majority of the reps I think he'll be a decent back. He obviously has the speed, and in the preseason he's shown a lot of power to drive the pile. We're lacking in overall depth, as evidenced by the 2.7 ypc average, but Wells has been significantly better than Allen, Jenkins, and the other backs. If he starts, I can't help but think he'll be a quality player and improve as the season goes along.

The pass defense concerns me, but maybe we can find a couple of safeties on waivers after the cut deadline Tuesday. Anyway, while it's definitely not time to start a parade, try not to be too hard on the Texans based on the score. Now's not the time to look at the complete package... we're still evaluating individual parts. Hopefully in two weeks, we will have everything together a lot more.

I don't mean to contradict you The Cat, but I was actually a little down on Carr tonight. He looked terrific in the first couple of games but has been far less impressive recently. In his defense, his receivers were dropping balls, however Carr consistently overthrew the receivers and was often throwing from his infamous 3/4 angle. On his 3rd quarter interception, Carr even appeared to sling the ball sidearm. He's young though and he needs games like this to learn and adjust. On a positive note, Jabar Gaffney looked very impressive. He consistently broke away from his defenders and was open a number of times, notably on a bomb where Carr overthrew him by a good 5 yards. If Carr and Gaffney can work their timing out, they could connect on some big plays starting this year.

I live about 15 minutes from the stadium if there is no traffic. However...

I left the house at 5:20 this afternoon. I got to the parking lot at 7:15.

That's almost 2 HOURS for a normal 15 minute trip!!!!

Things would have been a lot better if they had had cops directing traffic at the following intersections:

    1) Buffalo Speedway @ Murworth
    2) Buffalo Speedway @ Main

These were the places where people drove us into complete bedlam. The worst was the Murworth intersection.

What's the point of having a gazillion parking spots when people can't get in or out? Once the cash lot sold out, the police had no clue what to tell people. One basically told me to go home. At that point I was so pissed off cause I bought a baller single ticket and had already missed the first quarter. I can't believe Reliant Park did not know that there would be tons of fans show up just to chill outside the stadium even if they did not have tickets. Now I have to go check my brake lights to make sure they didn't burn out in the wait.

Police should have been directing traffic at Main and 610. It took me nearly 90 minutes to exit 610. I hate people who cut into line making people patiently waiting in line wait even longer!

I finally got in when they opened the lot east of the Astrodome and Astrohall to the public...instead of $10 it was now $15

For the game, I didn't enjoy it much although I had seats in Row G in Sec 103. I left early so I didn't catch traffic on the way back. I'm glad I don't have season tickets cause I can't handle the traffic again.

I was in that traffic on main street and it was terrible...We timed it and that was exactly what it took.. 30 minutes for 3 tenths of a mile...after we bailed and came in from the side of the orange lot it was smooth sailing.

I was curious what it was like coming in from 610 ? Was it backed up onto the freeway ?

I also was impressed with Carr...shows a lot of poise for a rookie. That one throw that was called back was amazing.

The wr's on the other hand stunk the place up ...... and that one play where you say he overthrew JG.....well I thought JG clearly gave up on the pass :(

BTW ..Does any know who sang the anthem ?

.....and what was that song they played during the introductions ?

The 610 feeders east and west of Main Street were parking lots. I could have bailed at 7:00 PM when a store near Main Street and Murworth was offering spots in their lot for $20, but I had no clue the cash lot sold out. Finally I get to the yellow lot, and the cop directs me to keep going. I'm like WTF. Fortunately I did get a spot but by then it was 14-0 Dolphins and I left at 24-0 Dolphins in the 4th.

I thought the pre-game introductions stunk and set an awful tone for the first home game of the season. I would rather have been listening to Mariah Carey than that nonsense. I think the players were so hyped-up from the pre-game intro that everything after that was a let-down. Change the song ASAP and maybe our players can save their energy for the actual game!

It actually wasnt overthrown. Gaffney was not running hard all the way, which he should have on a play like that.

Anyone notice the announcer was way off the mark or just plain damn slow....
one player was already lined up waiting for the next player before his name was even called....
Then another player fell down in the tunnel and his helmet went flying.
I told many on here when i did the short review on Open house, the traffic is and will be horrible.
Me and my friends have blue parking pass and still barely made it before player intro's

Now think about what the Rockets are gonna have downtown...
either they come up with a plan to share parking with the stro's or their is gonna be problems the parking they are planning on building is not gonna be enough and I for one HATE DOWNTOWN the roads suck!

Movie -- parking is a snap downtown...meters are free after 6 and on weekends...and they're building a parking garage for the arena only!!! Nobody parks for Astros games on the side of downtown where the Rockets arena will be located. Parking is great downtown...many of the people already work downtown anyway and already have their cars parked..this is particularly true of NBA games which are so corporate anyway..the roads will be better soon enough..give it time...

damn you guys are so negative all the time!!! wah wah...parking...wah wah...beer costs too much..wah wah...it all takes too long. freaking stay at home, then!!! watch the game on the couch and save me all the sad songs! reminds me of the people who complained over and over again about the astros building their new park downtown.."wah...it won't be safe downtown..wah...there's not enough parking!" Yeah...safe?? how about 40K fans walking out of the game together with police presence? Parking...how about the fact I park closer to the ballpark than I ever did for the Astrodome and I think I've paid for parking twice in the roughly 30 games I've been to down there?

As for the Texans introductions....I thought they were great!! I LOVE the idea of getting the fans involved screaming out the last names...that will catch on and be something really unique, I think. That stadium traps the sound in so well...I can't wait for Friday night!!!!

    Go Texans!!!
