This is not a AB bashing thread. This is just a question to get some insight on what the coaching staff is doing. Why did AB attempt 25 shots and 13 three pointers while Martin attempted only 13 shots and 4 three pointers last night? Why not go to Martin for the last shot? Isn't that why we traded for a scorer? Last I read he was the most prolific scorer in NBA in the last two seasons according to the Morey's stat machine. Just curious.
Brooks is the one who got opened. If it was Martin, he would have taken the shot. Don't you think Sacramento knew not to leave Martin open?
It's just the way this team is built right now. Not enough time together to build trust and chemistry. They are just winging it and trying to avoid mistakes. Next year after a long off-season things will look a LOT better.
I dont want to hate on Brooks either, but I agree 100% with you. He needs to pass a little bit more- expand his game. He would be killer if he could get a couple more assists per game!
The play, for people that don't remember, was for Martin to make the first move as a decoy, and then Brooks popped open. It was a play for Brooks.
pretty sure he's better than mcgrady. i'll love it when we're drafting high with those knicks picks...you wont be complaining then.
People were getting on AB last year because he wasn't aggressive enough. Now it's he doesn't like to pass?? Wow. He tried to shoot the Rockets to a win last night because nobody else was stepping up. End of story. Re-watch the game.
You guys need to think of the trade as not individual assets... don't worry about brooks and his passing. honestly when Yao is back brooks will just bring the ball up the court and the offense will run through Yao. everyone else just slash and spot up. and that is why martin is so important; he does both.
Yes - when you have 2 guys who average 20ppg, it is completely unthinkable that the one with the marginally lower average might possibly attempt more shots than the one with the slightly higher average on one particular night.
also you may notice even though he was having an off shooting night, Martin still managed to score 14pnts on 7 of 8 FTs while grabbing 8 boards. Not great but he still managed to contribute.
if yall think martin is this jordan type of scorer, then that's wrong. He's not, he's more of a rip hamilton, but more efficient. Don't expect him to get the ball in crunch time and just take it to the defender and score at will. It's a system here and they're getting system players. The old sacramento teams did what they did within the offense, not through one guy overpowering the D.
I thought Martin was extremely passive last night. I don't know if the whole "this is just a regular game" line he kept repeating caused him to not be focused and aggressive or what but he just didn't seem willing to make things happen offensively.
Give Kevin Martin credit for running the play as planned. If it wasn't for Martin, AB would probably not have got such a wide open look.
Some of you are being a bit unfair, it wasn't like Martin was having the game of his life. He didn't play well at all and his former teammates played some great defense on him and they know Martin's game inside and outside.. I have no problem with Brooks taking those amount of shots when no one else is showing up to play..
