I don't know if this belongs in the Tennessee Titans thread or the playoffs threads but Mods please combine if it does. I don't know if the Ravens would've won that game if they Flacco hadn't been able to convert that third down play a second after the play clock expired. What I don't understand is why that isn't a challengeable play since you can clearly see on replay when the play is snapped and where the clock is at. The Ravens and Titans played a great game but that was a play that changed the game and shouldn't have happened.
Karma might but be kicking Bud Adams but I'm just wondering about the rulebook. I understand you can't challenge things that are judgement calls by the refs but this isn't a judgement call. You can clearly tell when the snap happens and when the clock expires. Its much clearer than determing when a receiver has possession or where a ball is downed which can all be challenged.
And if this is something that is happening all the time it needs to be fixed. A bad call is a bad call and even if the Cowgirls, Jazz or Yankees, get screwed on a bad call I'm still going to say that that is something that needs to be addressed.
I don't think it is nearly as wide spread as you are making it sound like. It's a bad call. There are several in every game in every sport. Every team has to deal with it.
^ Refs make mistakes all the time and I know that as a ref myself in another sport. At least in football though they've put in a system where you can correct mistakes that are obvious and not subjective like pass interference. A delay of game penalty is very easy to spot with replay, far easier than determining possession on a reception, yet it isn't challengeable and as shown in this game can be a game changer.
On another note, am I the only one who seemingly saw Flacco step out of the end zone on the incomplete pass late in the 4th quarter. It seemed obvious to me and I went back and paused it and ran it in slow motion and it sure looked like it. There was a point where his foot was parallel to the back line and the next steps he took clearly took one of his feet over the line (or so it looked).
I saw that, and wanted a better angle to know for sure. It really looked like he did, but I never went back. I actually figured it was close enough that they would replay it, but I forgot about it shortly thereafter. I agree with the play clock question. It would be any easy thing to review. They'll probably change it, but it's too late. That alone may not have cost the Titans the game. But it certainly didn't help. Sucks for us. Scoreboard to Baltimore. That's all that matters. Then again, when Chris Johnson went down, that was pretty much season over anyway.
It didn't happen. During the post game they went back and showed a different angle and he was definitely in bounds.
titans deserved that loss, clock or no clock, they would have lost anyway, that FG could have easily gone 10 more yards, or lost in OT, what a joke of an offense today, terrible
Thanks. I was kind of surprised that they didn't bother replaying it when it did happen. It sure looked like it from the one angle that was shown live.
can't they review 12 men on the field for the defense? it sure seems like if you can review that that you should be able to look at delay of game since it's a very black and white thing. and while they often let teams snap the ball a split second after it hits zero without a penalty, that was a good 1.5 seconds or so. in the carolina game, they got a snap off a split second after zero and, to add insult to all the other insults, the refs called the delay of game on carolina. maybe it was just to rub it in to the titans how bad they missed the call in their game. and flacco did stay in back in the endzone.
