This is very similar to the play of Yao stealing the inbound pass/behind the back and cost all the way to the other end for a dunk. I guess Shawn does have some athleticisim back in his college days, and is also the reason why he was picked so high in the draft. Its too bad that when his career is over, he will be considered a stiff.
Uhh.... he IS in the NBA in that gif. He's wearing a 76ers uniform. Bradley had a decent start to his NBA career... then as players got stronger and faster, they started to manhandle him severely. He got some of them back with his sharp elbows, but he never had the leg strength or upper body strength to be able to bang as much as Yao does on any given night.
Sorry, I thought someone over at the real gm board said it was a clip from his college days...I guess he was pretty athetic in the beganning of his career.
Well, there's only one black guy on the floor with him, so I can imagine why you thought it was from his BYU days...
I remember there was a hot debate in the 93 draft on whether Webber or Bradley should be the first pick. Here is what people who favored Bradley argued: You can find a muscular PF who can shoot (Webber) every year. But a 7-footer who can dribble and run the floor (Bradley) is a rarity that comes once in a decade.
I was one of those in favor of Orlando drafting Bradley. The thought process was that there would've been zero layups with Shaq and Mantis in the lane. I also didn't think Sam Cassell was going to be any good from that draft as well. Good thing I'm not running a NBA team.
Looking back on it now, I wonder about what if Orlando kept the #1 pick and drafted Webber. Can you imagine Shaq in the low post and C-Webb at the high post with his passing skills. That would have been amazing. Penny + three #1s was probably the right call for the Magic, but a Shaq/Webber tandem could have been the most dynamic big man pairing of all time.
Good thing Orlando has the crappiest GM I have ever seen in the last decade...trading away an insane amount of talent...constantly.
i remember that talk...and to be honest with you, it's what freaked me out at first about yao ming. because he was given the same kind of praise.
If I remember correctly they DID draft Webber, and traded him immediately for Penny. They had to switch caps.
Yes, he HAD talent when he came into the NBA. I think his rookie contract back in 1993 was $44MM. Some guys just lose their will to strive and improve when they know that much money is guaranteed. One of the beautiful things about rookie contracts now is very good players have incentive to improve enough so they can hit the jackpot on their 2ND contract. Giving unproven rookies $44MM guaranteed before they took the floor was crazy.
