Why are the Rockets not filling out the bench quickly???

I understand that we just got Dwight and should all be ecstatic, but we have several spots on our bench that need to be filled out using the Room level exception and vet. minimums, even possibly using trades.

It seems that a lot of the possible targets the Rockets could very much use(shooters, backup 4/5) are being rapidly signed by other teams and the list of desirable free agents the Rockets can afford shrinks by the day. I wonder is it because Morey is working on possible trades or is the front office content with the guys we have under contract and is willing to go to war with the guys we have. Thoughts????

Because they can't sign anyone until tomorrow

Because we have a low value MLE to offer and most of the players that people are worried about are signing for more than we can offer.

Also, our bench is not empty. Garcia, Casspi, Beverly, Greg Smith, DonutsORJones, Asik...

Some good bench players there and then a guy named Casspi.

Um aren't we actually pretty much set??

    Lin/PBev/Canaan
    Harden/Garcia/Anderson
    Parsons/Casspi/Anderson
    Smith/DMo/Jones
    Howard/Asik/Smith

We have three players for every position and the only one of those who hasn't seen real NBA minutes before is Canaan.

If Neal's value drops I would love to sign him, otherwise, I'm hoping T-Jones and D-mo come through for us this season. There is not really anything out there that jumps out at me that we need to sign. Is better to be patient and see what players might be released and what players might be traded.

I think we're set at every position. I'm going to make a claim that Pat Bev will be the eventual starter, with Canaan backing him up.

Lin will be the 6th man off the bench and play off guard with Bev or Canaan.

If you remember, Lin played 2 guard against the Thunder while Bev was playing PG, and it worked pretty darn well. Expect to see more of that next season.

I'm not sure why you think we don't already have a pretty filled out bench. As is, it looks something like this:

    Lin/Harden/Parsons/TJones/Dwight...Bev/Canaan/Garcia/Casspi/DMo/GSmith/Asik o_O

That's a very solid 12, very good starting lineup, and a very good bench.

Huh? The roster is pretty full. Unless we cut someone there is not room.

    1 D12
    2 Asik
    3 Smith
    4 DMo
    5 TJones
    6 Ohlbrect
    7 CP25
    8 Cisco
    9 Caspri
    10 Covington
    11 JHard
    12 Anderson
    13 JLin
    14 PatBev
    15 Canaan

    That's 15 people under contract.

Because they have only played two games of summer league. Once SL is over then the bench will be filled.

I am betting that Ohlbrecht gets cut if there isn't a trade.

Well, it's not like the Rockets have a game that counts they need to play tomorrow night. No worries. Plenty of time to make roster moves.

We have by FAR the best backup center in the NBA, plus if Smith comes off the bench instead of starting, one of the better backup power forwards, and a pretty good backup PG in PBev. Garcia is an average bench wing.

    Looks decent to me.

The Rockets are probably waiting for a quality player to slip and sign for our limited $$$. I am assuming Brewer wants too much $$$.

I just wasn't aware that we had kept Anderson, Ohlbrecht, etc. I thought we had to renounce them to make enough cap space so I wasn't sure if they were still on the roster...

Even without Anderson we still have two backup wings... Garcia and Casspi.

The Rockets bench is fine. If they're going to upgrade, it's not depth, but rather front-line talent. PG and PF seem to be the most likely position to upgrade if they find someone.

    Lin/Beverley
    Harden/Garcia
    Parsons/Casspi
    Jones/Motiejunas
    Howard/Asik/Smith

There's really just a need for one more guy. Either a good wing defender (Brewer) or a quality vet at the PF spot.

With Canaan, Anderson and Ohlbrecht being in the d-league or in suits.

Bench has 3/5th's of the starting unit that won two playoff games against OKC, really not bad at all! Doubt their is any other team in the NBA that deep.

When I look at the roster (and Free Agency class, for that matter) I look at the guys and imagine how they'd play in a Game 7 fourth quarter of the Finals. We are a contending team now.

    Lin/Beverley
    Harden/Garcia
    Parsons/Casspi
    Jones/Motiejunas
    Howard/Asik/Smith

I'm still iffy on Lin. Seems like we can use a guy like Corey Brewer to round out our bench. I doubt Casspi will be a rotational player. Certainly not in the playoffs. Obviously, our PF slot is far from a finished product.
