Just wondering. Is there something specific about the profession that makes so many teachers lean that way?
Because American politics exists as a duality, not a parliamentary spectrum, and one side of that duality is hell-bent on cutting their already-paltry pay, under-funding their schools, inserting particular aspects of religion into their curriculum and undermining the notion of public education in favor of charter and/or religious schools.
Are there any studies on whether the average teacher's political leanings are different at private schools vs. public schools?
i don't blame them here, at least in texas abbot et al want to cut funding etc. Democrats typically value education and value teachers more than republicans, i'll give them that. Theres also an anti-science, overly religious trait that comes with some of the uneducated pockets that are generally right leaning with respect to southern states. Its similar to why woman's/LGBTQ groups are typically overwhelmingly dem as well. People will side with party that supports them. We also really need to raise the bar for teachers in this country as well as value their contribution regardless of political affiliation.
Define far left. Labor workers in the us has mostly been left leaning until Trump started capturing blue collar folks that Dems generally leave behind or take for granted. Also, the pay for teachers doesn't make the Right worth respecting them, and teaching kids is considered feminine. This is all despite teachers sharing civic duty or pride like law enforcement who is also deeply organized and wields a large bureaucratic labor stick. I guess cons like the power/authority aspect attached to police and ignore their contribution to The Beast.
One side wants religion indoctrination and is known for being anti climinate/science and then there's the other side. It's not that hard of a concept to see why teachers unions lean towards the left.
So we’re gonna act like the right wing doesn’t call teachers groomers and pedophiles 24/7, doesn’t want to ban books, doesn’t interject 1 religion into everything, doesn’t attack education at every turn, doesn’t celebrate ignorance, etc? a teacher would have to be a fool to be right wing…it’s basically like a member of the LGBTQ community being right wing
Because the poor and middle class kids got real degrees cause they want to get paid Doctors Lawyers Computer scientists you are left with the save the world liberal arts majors And they aren’t Swedish house mafia @Invisible Fan let’s also face that the immigrant population didn’t leave their country so their kids can make $50k They want more I know lots of teachers breh They spend their summers on safaris in Africa or cruises Acapulco @Salvy they don’t need the money or they have spouses who make corporate or doctor bank
Typically when a political party is always cutting your budget you tend to not be supportive of them. It’s why I completely understand that most peace officers lean right.
Police Unions tend to lean Right and in some states anti-Union laws specifically exclude Police unions. In general you're right and LE is a special case regarding many other issues besides things like pay and healthcare.
Aside from the point people have made that Republicans are anti-union, which forces unions to be anti-Republican, I guess I'd also point out that teachers are college-educated, and we know that's a demographic that leans left.
It's so strange. If there's one thing you'd think all sides could agree on, it would be education. Education has always been a driver for advancement of civilization. To have one group lashing out at education is really strange. I wonder why a group would be so antagonistic and dismissive of education. Families have long wanted their children to be better off and more learned than they were. Many families still do. But there is a sizable group out there trying their best to trash education and educators.
Are they “far left”? Or is that just because your perspective is “far right”? Anti education is a conservative thing. Anti unions is a conservative thing. You should knows this if you support DeSantis.
