Doesn't seem that appealing. Why do people do it?

Yes. Like alcohol, yet one of the few of my friends that don't want to get absolutely wasted when drinking.

Because some people are so socially inhibited the only way for them to be true to themselves is by taking on a new open personality of a drunkard. It is sad state of affairs when one has to go to such great lengths to avoid the reality of their life.

It's worth doing at least a few times in your life, each time telling yourself "NEVER AGAIN" but eventually doing it again.

The only thing I'm going to hate about college is that probably 3 out of 7 nights of every week I'm going to have to deal with completely wasted roommates.

Hanging out with drunk people while sober is not fun at all.

That is common though if you are under 21 and most the people around you drinking are underage as well. A lot of it is lack of experience and thinking that getting blackout drunk is the only way to drink. Everything in moderation. Plus after 21 you'll start seeing some real alcoholism that exists in people. Just hang around people that don't drink like that and you should be fine. There will always be 'that dude' at the party that just wants to get ****faced, vomit and think they had a great time even though they don't remember any of it.

Sounds like 95% of the people I knew in high school.
Its not like I'm anti-drinking. I just stop at the buzz stage because getting drunk was never appealing to me, lol.

This is very true. I have some pretty bad social anxiety and the only time I'm comfortable around new people is while drinking. Pretty sad but it does help.

Other than a select few occasions such as a 21st bday, a breakup, or losing a job as a few examples, I don't think people usually plan on getting absolutely hammered. I think normally people like to get buzzed/drunk, but it's a really fine line to walk before you reach hammered.

I can really only remember being totally plastered once (maybe twice) in college. That was enough. I really didn't like being in that condition and eventually didn't like being around other in that condition either. I don't think I've even been drunk since then.
