Hey, Being a Rockets Fan for a long time how come we make a huge trade for Tracy McGrady and all you can hear about is how the Denver Nuggest signed to good role players and San Antonio signed Brent Barry? I mean, is Brent Barry better than TMAC? TMAC is SO YOUNG and along with YAO MING if they gel good together the Rockets will be a force for many years. So, why is it the media seems to be downplaying our move with the fact we didn't go out and pay an overpayed point guard who's not young millions of way to much money! Anyone with any comments?!

i dont really think anyone is downpalying us. Denver did get better than us. We have to prove to everyone that we will be good before they give us credit. :)

There's no way the current roster will get very far with the moves we made so far, we need a solid point guard and a backup center..we've only made one BIG move and thats it

Mostly because the TMac deal is ancient history compared to last 8 days or so.

hey! first post. welcome to the board.

well... as has been discuss on several other threads in this forum, the Rockets obviously made a great move to bring in TMac, but many people feel that while it's a positive step it may not be enough to vault us into the Western Conference elite.

We have a solid nucleus in Yao and TMac (chicken and rice) but Howard is solid yet unspectacular, JJ is a solid buy aging vet, and Ty Lue has not been a proven starter. The off season would have been much better had we been able get a dead eye shooter to take advantage of Yao and TMac's doubles, a better point guard to get Yao and TMac the ball, and a backup center than can spell yao and provide interior defense and rebounding (like Etan Thomas, Sam Dalembert).

We have not been able to land these types of players. Hence we have these glaring weaknesses that keep us from having had a "great" offseason.

have some patience, there are still a few good point guards out there, CD will do something, i mean our team IMO, is better than kobe/shaq era lakers, our role players r much better, it mite take some time, but we will win, dont have expectations too high, shaq/kobe dint win a championship their first year together, kobe still developing, just like yao and even tmac are..so have patience it might take a few years before our title.

Tmac still developing? He's developed. You don't become a 2-time scoring champion is a state of developing himself. He's at the stage if not ahead of Kobe. The time is Yao. Screw all this "It will take some time" crap. They have the foundation for something big and why not try to fill in all the necessary pieces now. It's not because of cap room. They have a mid level and a trade exception which in total amounts to about 12 million. That's plenty. If they don't have a solid lineup with a workable bench, it's management's fault. They can't blame the market.

Houston is doing the best thing for the LONG TERM...

Remember we still have to resign guys like oh... TMAC and that other guy Yao Ming...

We won't add any big contracts, especially since we've been burned in the past ala Moochie Norris or even to this point Maurice Taylor(he's had one good season as a Rocket and that was last year off the bench)...

In all honesty, we need a decent PG, a decent backup center and at least another shooter(unless Gaines can get going)...

Going in with only Piatowski and TMas our best shooters worries me, JJackson is good but not a great perimeter shooter...

The attention span of the typical American and our press is increasingly shorter and shorter. The move for Tmac is ystrdys news with Shaq, K-mart and other players changing teams, and others staying place (Kobe).

I don't think JJ is a great perimeter shooter...

He was great last year.....but compared to who???? Francis? Mobley?

Not what I call great perimeter shooters...

Francis and Mobley are scorers not great shooters...

Brent Barry is a great perimeter shooter and well Piatowski is usually...

JJ is not at that level, is he better than Brent and Eric, YEAH...:D

We need solid perimeter players to open up TMac and Yao...

Mobley is a pretty deadly 3 point shooter. He was even in the 3 point shooting contest last all-star weekend.

I think the people on this board expected our new season's lineup will be:

    Kidd
    T-Mac
    AK47
    Yao
    Shaq

So far, the Rockets are not even close to our expectation.

Yep, if you don't spare no expense with players and try to engulf your team with all star type players ala Mavs or Kings, you're just not gonna EVER win a title. :p

Well, actually, the answer to this question is that we traded for T-Mac while the Nuggets signed K-Mart.

Meaning, they didn't give up anything to get K-Mart, they just added him.

However, we traded 3 starters to get 3 players. We certainly got better, however, it's not as dramatic as if we had signed T-Mac outright to our team.

Ah, so the lack of drama is the reason.. mhm.:p

If we had signed T-mac outright though... hmmm..

Ugh, I can only imagine the horror of T-mac having Steve as the starting PG. If you think he struggled adapting his game to a great big man like Yao, imaging having to adapt his game to TWO great players..

    Ouch.

    :p

Part of the reaction comes from the fact that the Rockets said right after the trade that they knew they had holes to fill, specifically a starting PG and a back up center.

The Rockets themselves pubically put those expectations out there and then the obvious names, Fisher, Barry, Hudson, Foyle, etc. began to get too much money, they all went elsewhere and over the past several weeks the available list of players keeps dwindling.

So the initial reaction is oops plan A slipped a little. We will have to wait to get a good starting PG, and a good backup center.

Now we may get lucky and fill those needs with less popular or obvious choices. But none the less most of us thought we had enough leverage, TE, and MLE to get something done sooner.

This has been a great offseason, just because Francis for TMac was a huge steal.

Now we will have to wait and be patient for some more pieces to the championship puzzle.

As long and we sign TMac and Yao to long term deals, we will prevail.

Even CD can surround them with good role players given enough time.

Just don't set your expectiations too high this coming season and we will be fine.

The offseason was great, could have been even better but I'm not going to complain about having TMac, who would have thunk it just 6 months ago.
