Why does everybody keep sayin that they don't want webber now. Is he not the best scorin pf in the league, and one of the best players there is. Did he not lead his team to the playoffs by himself(with the exception of peja). We will probably make the playoffs without him, but what about a championship. Do u really think we can win won with mo , before we can with cwebb. Come on now. Cwebb has been in the playoffs and knows what it takes to win. Mo has been on the clippers. ------------------ oh
Come on now. Cwebb has been in the playoffs and knows what it takes to win. Then why hasn't he? The problem with Webber now is that we just picked up our 3rd star, and one that will be successful from the low post, etc. We need to let Francis, Cat, Griffin, and Mo grow together. If you get Webber, he is a great scorer, and he will command the ball nonstop. That is not what we need. We have enough scorers, and now we even have that low post scorer. We'd be much better off resigning Mo, a PF who can score but doesn't consistently command the ball, and getting a couple of defensive big men inside than getting Webber. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! so what if webber demands the ball. Are u sayin he shouldn't get it. Do u think mobley and francis would mind. Do u think they are selfish or something. They just want to win. With webber , you get a great scorer and a good rebounder, with taylor, u get a good scorer and a shaysty rebounder. Think what u like i guess, but it don't take much sense to realize that webber is what we need ------------------ oh
I agree with The Cat, we must resign Mo Tay and forget Webber. Unless Chris can except a smaller game through points, rebounds and money. ------------------ Keep Mo Ta & now we have Ta Mo

bigmike_oh, What is your take on all of the roster and salary cap implications of obtaining Webber? Mango ------------------ Get it right or just don't do it! Resistance is futile....you will be assimilated. Start more Webber threads!

I know they aren't selfish, but I'm not sure how either of them and especially Griffin will develop with Webber commanding the ball so much. Typically, building all-star type teams like Portland tried to do doesn't work. There are too many conflicts with "who's the man in the clutch", not enough shots for everyone to be happy, etc. Maybe it could work here, but throughout sports history it has not been a successful formula. If you think about it, the Lakers could have Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Nick Van Exel, and others with Kobe and Shaq right now. But they don't, and while those are very good players, they are better off for it. They found their go to guys and surrounded them with role players who fit in perfectly in the offense and team chemistry. We have our go to guys in Francis, Mobley, and Griffin. Instead of going after a 4th one, it would make more sense to me to go after those role players to compliment them. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! Bigmike: It's called "chemistry" and "not wanting to turn out like Portland." ------------------ Don't let those uppity newbies get away with acting like vets... ...all newbies are equal, remember that.
Also we know that Mo T. Likes it here and wants to stay. Hopefully it will work out well with Griffen and he will be around for a long time too. Why spend all of our money, lose our free agents and then have Webber decide that he doesn't want to stay in Houston, three years down the road? Webber doesn't have a history of sticking with a team. ------------------
On a side note. If we get Dream and Mo Tay back. We will be the only team in the NBA that I can think of where all our starters can create there own shot. Who do you double ?? I am very happy!!!!! ------------------
Big Mike you'll have to excuse the Cat, he's a pawn for Mo Taylor and to this day will not admit that he's the softest no rebounding, no defense playing, no guts having starting power forward in the entire league. Also, while he's busy propping Griffin as our low post threat he's failed to realize that he's all of 19 years old, probably won't even be in the starting lineup initially, and will be up against the best forwards in the league in KJ, McDyess, Duncan, Nowitski, Webber, etc. I think all of the Webber hating is coming from the delusion of swindling New Jersey for Griffin. The truth is that the Rockets have apparently little chance of landing Webber so they don't want to annoy their own free agents by not kissing up to them and making them feel wanted. If Webber really wanted to come here the Rockets would drop Mo Taylor and Shandon in a second. ------------------ First the Sopranos and now Eddie Griffin... thank you New Jersey!
I highly suggest all of you take a peek at Achebe's brilliant post over in HeyPee's thread. I'm as enthused as any of you about the Griffin acquisition but he's no sure thing and he's defintely at least year away from prime time. The Clippers made an equally brilliant move and Phoenix isn't looking to shabby either. I wouldn't say Griffin makes a lock for the playoffs at all. And Hakeem? Man, he'll drop within the first 10 game. I'm sorry, I know he still has it but his body doesn't. He's just not reliable...and he defintely isn't long term. MoTay? I like the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man as much as anyone -- he defintely proved to me this year he has value but as long as Cato continues to suck, I really think we're gonna need someone who can board and provide a little muscle down low (which ain't Griffen -- homeboy got some growin' to do). Webber provides that. Shandon? Gone anyway. Webber is simply too much talent to pass on. I'm not worried about touches, because Eddie isn't gonna need to many next year, and Mobley gets way too many (Just my humble opinion :0) ) Good teams, good men sacrifice for the whole and I think these are all good men... anyways....I'm rambling...carry on... ------------------ Hey now, Hey now, don't Dream it's over...
Mo Taylor is an above average defender who gives 110% every night on the floor. There is a world of difference between rebounding and defesme. Mo uses his body well on the defensive end, he has good footwork, positioning, etc. He needs to work on his rebounding, although it more has to do with his style than effort. And as far as Griffin, we are all aware that he's 19 years old. Webber would be a good fit for this season. But Webber isn't going to come without a 7 year maximum contract, and after 2 of those years Eddie is going to be coming into his own. Griffin may not be our low post threat now, but he certainly would be long before Webber's contract expires. To all of the Webber supporters, next year he would be an excellent fit. Griffin probably isn't ready right away, and we could use a low post threat. However, it doesn't work that way. If the Rockets get him, you're talking a commitment at the maximum salary for the next 7 years. During that time, I'm almost sure that Griffin will become a force in this league, and you'll have a big conflict with how many touches everyone gets. A good example I could use would be the current Laker team. When they had a young, developing Kobe like we have a young, developing Griffin, they could've had one of the most talented teams of all time. They could've had Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Nick Van Exel, Dennis Rodman- you name it. But they didn't. They shipped those players away for role players that beautifully complemented their star Shaq and potential star Kobe. Mo could be a great role player for us at the PF spot, and cap room like we have right now comes along very seldom. We are much better off using it on good role players to fill needs than we are getting another star. P.S.-- I'm almost positive the Rockets have a great chance at Webber if they wanted him. Indiana won't deal O'Neal, Orlando wants Davis, and NY doesn't have the ammunition to do a trade. He doesn't like the small town atmosphere of Sacramento either. But the Rockets know when they have enough stars, and they know when to go after role players. Now is that time. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! I don't understand how Griffin can be propelled from a college freshman (granted, a talented one who led his team's charge in the tourney) to 3rd go-to guy on the Rockets. If he's starting with Dream & Mo, he may end up the 5th go-to guy. ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
I agree with just about everything in this post except the part about Phoenix. They just gave up quite possibly the best point guard in the league for Marbury. Not too wise. ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
Toast, You're making the same mistake as everyone else. Next year, he may be the 5th go to guy. Or the 6th. Who knows? Webber would be an excellent fit next year, I do not deny that. However, the Rockets did not draft Eddie to be a role player. While it may not happen now, they drafted him on his star potential, and they fully expect him to be a star here for years. When he becomes that, he will be able to dominate the low post, and be able to crash the boards. Next year we'd be much better with Webber. The problem is, you have to make a seven year commitment at the max salary to get this guy, and I can almost guarantee Griffin will come into his own and be a star in this league long before those seven years expire. Loading up on stars is not the way to go in the NBA. ------------------ EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE!!! Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Profiles, rankings, mock drafts, and more! Typically, building all-star type teams like Portland tried to do doesn't work Portland is the only team in the past two years to even give LA a challenge and was 15 minutes away from the finals. Apparently, the non-all-star type team works even less. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
Cat, your opinion of Mo comes off as somewhat biased, considering the fact that you have a webpage devoted to him. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
