I'm not asking who your favorite poster is, although I have a feeling that many people will equate their favorite poster with the answer to this question. I, personally, like several including: Hottoddie - he always cracks me up with his "wacky" trade proposals which are always witty. He is also a very underrated poster, IMO. ROXRAN - a personal favorite of mine. One of the first to teach me about "schticks and gimmicks" on the BBS and not to take things seriously on the BBS (although I still have trouble following that). Major - my favorite personality when it comes to talking college football. Mango - just because.....actually, I like his borg persona. Frequently imitated but never done as well as the original. TheFreak - because he can get people so mad sometimes (like me). I can't help but think that he is LHAO behind his monitor at some of the people (including me in the past) who have been infuriated at him. dylan - guy who is really funny once you get to know him. I have a feeling that he has a bad rep here which I feel that he might have gotten unfairly. Achebe - would have been my #1 choice, but he never posts anymore. Still, there is no one that cracks me up more than him. Sheer, unadulterated greatness.... Heath - He is my #1 now. He reminds me of the guy that you knew in college that stayed in his room all day watching TV, playing video games, and sleeping. He would only go to class when he had a test yet he would do well enough to pass the course. You have to be in awe of a guy like that. Really, there are very few people on this BBS that I don't like in their personality; however, these 8 are the most memorable ones to me.
What can I say? I guess thanks. And Puedlfor: You really need to start a new tournament. Dump this best poster ****. We want to know who has the best personality!! Pity I didnt make it further so you could vote against me some more. In all fairness though, I didnt deserve the vote in those matchups, and it's not like I spread out that sim-league love towards you either. Round 1: 8- grummet 9 - Manny_Ramirez A flip of a coin? My bad selective memory? I sure both are worthy. I'll go with the highest seed. Round 2: 1 - crispee - he's been gone for a while now, but my memory is not short, loved his posting 9 - Manny_Ramirez (Love it how I had no memory for the first round, but is was back in round 2. In my defense I have read a lot of Heypee posts) Round 3: 9 - Manny_Ramirez 5 - RocketmanTex (Finally won my vote - maybe do to my selective memory again - in fact when poster use part of Rockets or some players in their handle I tend to mix them up - I guess my selective memory was back here - this time helping you) Sweet Sixteen: 9 - Manny Ramirez 2 - rimbaud I guess with us not voting for eachother in the best poster tourney, this "Manny-award" means even more. To answer the question of this thread though. I think I would find most of who I think is good posters to be what I think of as good BBS personalities. I don't know if I can seperate those two. I guess I can see it your way though too - in no way am I a "good poster" in the sense of bringing in scoops/inside information, participate in heated up hangout discussions etc. But I do have a lovely personality My post were orginally mostly found in the Rockets forum, and I tried to post only when I had something to say. Something happened though, late last season that moved me away from the Rockets forum - no, not all the "crap" posts in said forum, but the birth of the sim-leagues. This season I have not been posting a lot in other forums, and my contribution to this site have been the stats I provided in the chat. With this season going down the tubes there is no interest for those stats (or me interested in doing them), so I guess I too have mailed in the season. I will never be a tanker though, I will always root for Rockets to win every game. Tanking is bad "karma" - of course like all I will be happy for any high pick we do get, I just don't like the losing to get them. In that sense the way we got Francis and Griffin was way better. I like a lot of posters style, and think they bring diversity to the board. I can enjoy posts from both Clutch and Heypartner, even though "The Boss" thinks the other suck as a poster. I also love the freakish posts by The Freak and the edgy posts by Kagy. I could go on an on - but my bad short time/selective memory would change this list from each time I post or read posts by others. This board has too many members for me to remember all who I think is good posters / have good personality. I did not mention any of the sim-leaguers (none mentioned - none forgotten), but with all the time spent in chat with them I think there is the chance I would have to learn more about the personalities of posters, rather than just reading the posts by all. So in closing - I love you all - now please vote for me in the upcoming best BBS personality contest.
Manny, 2 questions. 1. Why do you start threads like this (best, worst) posters, etc? 2. Why am I never on any of the lists? Be kind.
gravity i assume pulling all the small particles in the early solar system together into larger and larger clumps that took on a spherical shape because it is so uniform.
I don't know, Rich. Why do you start threads on abortion or pro-Christian right stuff? I guess I like to talk about or discuss things that are light and not meant to be taken seriously. There is always a danger in doing threads like this one. It all depends on your audience as well as the first response in the thread. Heath, the hero that he is - God bless him, gave a great response but it came 2 hours after the thread had been started. Hardly a ringing endorsement to others in seeing this thread "take off". Also, some posters that I thought that this would appeal to either have not been to Hangout today or they felt indifferent to the thread. Therefore, this thread wound up becoming a stinker. It happens, Rich, especially when you post as much as I do - sometimes you can start some great threads and other times - sucky threads. But guess what? I'll probably keep posting things like this, but not every thread that is started by me will be like this one. I also find it curious that after your post, the thread went downhill (from what I wanted to get out of it). So, in other words, you killed this thread....good job! Because you can be a pompous ass, sometimes & you sorta have this issue of thinking you are always right and everyone else is wrong. But seriously, you have posted some good threads of late like the "Does Your Significant Other Post Here" in which I found out that haven's girlfriend thinks I have ADHD. BTW - haven: when are you going to start the baseball sim season? So, you're not all that bad. Put a sock in it, Bruin boy!
Manny, I said "Be kind." Why do you call me a pompous ass? Weren't you the one just complaining about people making judgements about you based on the shallow knowledge gained on this board? When I'm right, everyone else is wrong?! Really. My, it is lonely at the top. Chuckle. Just because I disagree with 5 or 6 guys regularly about political stuff does not make me pompous or arrogant. I never convince them to my point of view. Why are they not criticized for thinking they are right and I am wrong? I don't start most of those "pro-Christian Right" threads. I do start some but very few. Most of my threads are more light-hearted as you have also noticed. Thanks for, at least, observing that accurately. I killed a thread. Okay, let's start a "most powerful" poster thread!
Interesting topic Manny. I hadn't really thought about the posters in terms of "personas" before. But now that I consider it, there are some pretty interesting ones here. I have to admit, although I didn't agree with a word she said, Princess certainly had a fascinating online personality. Sometimes she drove me crazy and other times I got a sense that she was having a difficult time finding her way in the world. I almost felt protective toward her. I'm using the past tense because it seems like she's disappeared. Too bad. I'm perplexed by Roxran's desire to eat squirrels, I think Dimsie and Elvis are so damn cool they'd probably snort in contempt at meeting any of us in person and I think haven's got too much book-learnin' for his own damn good. I love the way Monkey is totally unfazed by everything, and rimbaud is just as cryptic as you would expect a miserable french poet to be. And of course, I can't forget Manny who nearly bit my head off when I made a little joke about Moby, but who turned out to be a really nice guy. All in all this board is one giant freak show!
Rich: It has been pointed out numerous times to you, most recently by Jeff that it is one thing to have an opinion, but the way that you express it is another thing & that is what I'm talking about. Hey, that is what makes this board great in that we all have opinions that differ from others. However, when a topic is being discussed and there are no right or wrong answers, it makes one look pompous to come across and say that their opinion is the *right answer*. Horsesh!t...there are no right or wrong answers to something that lends itself to opinions. There's a difference in asking someone, "What do you think of abortion" compared to "What's the derivative of sin x?". The second example has an exact answer; the first one doesn't. If you go back and look, objectively, at your tone in some of these threads, then you can see why this is said about you. I know that when I go back and look at some of my old posts, I can tell when I was being a jackass. You are right about people not making generalizations about others, but you don't understand my example with haven's fiance. Let me ask you something: does she post here? The answer is no she doesn't. It is one thing to lurk and be in the background, and another to come to the forefront and jump into the discussion. Granted, I haven't had a lot of discussions with you because I know that we don't see eye to eye on hardly anything, but I feel that you would know me better (but not completely because no one does here) than someone who has never registered to post as a member here. Does that make sense? I guess I was a little inflammatory, but my previous post was tongue-in-cheek. I think you are an alright guy - just a little stubborn and set in your ways & from time to time, I like to see you get or appear to be worked up. Sorta like how Sir Jackie Chiles aka Det the Threat likes to do to me.
Manny, where to start? The only time I articulated a "right answer" was the issue about restoring the murdered victims of 9/11 back to life if it were in my power to do so. I would never hesitate to do so and I am flummoxed by anyone who would do otherwise. I'll stand by that one. I don't see how that is arrogant; I call it compassonate. I guess I see more issues where there are right and wrong answers. Jeff and you come from a vantage point of, shall I say, moral relativism. I come from a different place. If that makes you or Jeff, dislike me that's your problem not mine. I don't dislike you or him for your POV on any issue for I know that you are far more than just that or a collection of those. We could break bread or pop a top and hardly be aware of our differences. Ironically, I think that I have an easier time anticipating that than either you or Jeff. That's been my experience with those of a more liberal outlook-- here and elsewhere. Check out Tammy Bruce's book. I haven't seen a single person post "So what do you think about abortion?" as anything other than a thread topic on this board but if you want to hang only me out to dry for not doing so either, well, go right ahead if you've a mind to. I am not saying that I have never been a jackass, but I think it is an extremely rare thing. Yes, I am committed, even obstinate at times, for my point of view, but I do try to be civil and not slanderous. That does not a jackass make. The fact that haven's girlfriend doesn't post here is immaterial. She forms her opinion of people based on what she READS here not what she posts here. Don't worry though beause I think that I am the poster of her nightmares-- based on my tet-a-tets with haven!!
Gee I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out who the actual 5 other people who post on the bbs really are. The rest are just robots for my amusement, I'm sure of it.
HOLD IT!!! I didn't say ANYTHING!!! Manny dragged me into this. I thought, giddyup, you and I had gotten over our moral relativist rantings. I actually agree with you that meeting probably would not reveal any major differences because people don't get into these intense, heated discussions in real life - well, at least not usually in MY life. I was just going to come in here and post that A-Train always made me laugh and I end up in some big argument. As Steve Martin would say, "Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse ME!"
