....Battier? It's still early, but: 35.9 MPG 37.7% FG 33.3% 3 point FG 66.7% FT 4.6 RPG 1.3 APG 0.9 SPG 1.0 BPG 1.25 TOPG 3.80 FPG 7.5 PPG This has been an awful start to the season for Shane. With pretty much the same time played, shooting percentage, points, assists, steals, etc. are all down, turnovers are up, fouls are way up. For all the talk about PG's, at what point do you start Bonzi instead? As great as a defender as he is at times, the good players in this league still get theirs...and Shane is giving us very little in return.
Package Battier with Rafer for Maggette+filler. Maggette has the Clippers in a bind. He has a player option that could leave them with nothing. Rockets take on that risk but are looking to win it all this season he could be the missing piece that puts them over.
I respect Battier's game but this team can win without him, trade him for that inside presence Yao needs. Rafer, Chuck, Battier CANNOT create shots for themselves. Sure Yao and Tmac can score just about all day, but for the offense to work we need at least one more creator in there.
I thought we decided that Battier's true value does not show up in the stat sheet And if you are listing stats, don't forget he's 1-1 in game winners
I mentioned this in chat last night. Battier isn't playing up to par like last year, it's been a bit disappointing. Does that mean we trade him immediately? According to the knee-jerk reactions of the GARM, probably. Realistically, of course not. He's a big part of the Rockets. But there's definitely room for improvement. We still have the same look on offense like last year: two guys who threaten to score at will, and 3 guys who aren't threats by any means. You only worry about Hayes on the backdoor passes. Alston isn't a great shooter from outside, and his penetrating tear-drop doesn't usually drop. And Battier basically makes his living on the 3 pt line. We need more guys to be a threat, otherwise it will be the 2 game man all year just like last. I don't know if it's on Adelman, Battier, or just the newness of it all, but I assume it's a combination of all 3. I thought this year Battier would get a few more shots inside and increase his ppg slightly due to the revamped gameplan.
Bad start when he made teh winning shot of the first game? This thread leads us back to the Gay trade. Battier is still the better player to complment Yao and Tmac.
Not really. Battier has struggled a bit with his offense since pre-season games. It could be that he's just not suited to Adelamn's system. 0-4 shooting against the Bobcats. 0-4 shooting against Grizzlies.
yeah, it must be the system when he didn't make shots he normally does... and come on, start bonzi wells instead of battier? this is just nuts.
Before the Rockets, it is my recollection that Battier was never a starter. There are STILL three bench players starting for the Rockets. I never thought this would happen. The Off season is starting to fade in its significance. This is last season all over again. The current configuration of starters are not play-off caliber. That has already been proven. I still want to see TMac at SF, Francis at SG, James at PG, Scola at PF and Yao at C. I think that combo could do some damage. I know, undersized, back court, but offensively potent. Just a little dreamcasting.
I still love Battier cause of his Defense. Every time I see the opposing team start up a scoring spree, then Battier gets on the scorer, they stop...It's crazy, I actually yell out something like "hell yes BATTIER SHOWEM THAT D" every time. He guards them very tight and locks em down.
