I watched Cop Out last night and man, it was horrible. Kevin Smith's last few movies have sucked for the most part. I was thinking that he had that in common with M. Night Shyamalan...they both started out on a high note, but have recently pumped out boring movies to pay the bills. The biggest difference, in my mind, is personality. Kevin Smith is a freaking funny guy and seems very friendly. M. Night Shyamalan, on the other hand, comes of as a douche. Who's worse?
When M. Night Shaylalmalamamallaa puts his name in front a movie..................I take it as a warning.
After watching just a few scenes from The Last Air Bender, all I want to do is wish for someone to go back in time and kill M. Night. What a disgrace to one of the greatest cartoon series ever.
Kevin's last few have been ughhhh but after Unbreakable M Night's movies have been box office DISASTERS. Saying that, I am curious to see what these "Night Chronicles" are all about, so sadly I will be suckered in again. Plus Kevin Smith gave us these guys so he gets mad love for that...
I think his last name is Shyamalan ............yes i know u are trying to be sarcastic . But it gets old sometimes.....
M Night is one of the worst "name" directors around, have no idea how he keeps getting work. Smith seems to have given up as of late but I thought Clerks 2 an Dogma were good stuff.
I suppose I would prefer Kevin Smith, but only because of his ability to write dialogue. For example Clerks and Chasing Amy, I think they showcase his ability to really write clever and interesting dialogue that seem like real conversations, and not just words to push the plot. Though the dude as a director is very simplistic. Basically set up the camera and go...not a lot of technique involved. And for action junkies, he's not the guy to look for. Plus, some of his humor is very juvenile and it gets old fast. M.Night on the other hand, quite well with direction, but a lot of his films just suck. Perhaps he would be better as a cinematographer or something. Came out the gates fast...but since has pretty much disappointed.
I like almost all of the movies that Kevin Smith has directed. I only liked one of M. Night's movies (Unbreakable).
m night > michael bay > kevin smith They all suck really... but this would be how I rate them. On a scale from 0-10 (10 being the best) compared to other directors they are: 1.0 > 0.7 > 0.5, respectively.
Smith's Clerks-Mallrats-Chasing Amy-Dogma run solidifies him - he'd have to turn out horrible movies for several decades to tarnish them. ZERO of M. Night's stuff hits that same level. One trick pony with the twist ending business. Unbreakable was his only truly great movie. Sixth Sense is overrated.
To be fair, Cop Out isn't really a Smith film in the sense that unlike his other films, he didn't write it. He just went after a paycheck and directed it. He kind of made that clear in interviews leading up to the film as if he knew it wasn't going to be very good and he didn't want to people to think it was something he actually wrote.
I voted M. Night Shamalalalamamamalalamamaalalalalamlalamalnalamanalamalmlamlalan. No... neither Guillermo del Toro nor Roberto Rodriguez are in this here poll.
I like all of Kevin Smith's movies, so I voted for M. Night, although I've liked several of his movies as well.
Kevin Smit has a podcast that is pretty damn funny so he gets a pass!!! M Night needs to redeem himself and make a good movie...
Cop Out wasn't that terrible, it had it's moments. You do not have to look at every movie like a damn expert movie critic. Kevin Smith is 10 times better than Night. Best cop movie award goes to The Other Guys by a long shot though.
He did put his name on it, but it wasn't billed as Kevin Smith film, hell a lot of people didn't even know he directed it. Even his last movie Zach and Miri Make a Porno, his name was never mentioned and was advertised like it was a Judd Apatow film. I'm a Kevin Smith fanboy, so I of course I picked M Night. Probably the only movie I didnt like that was written/directed by Kevin Smith was Jersey Girl. If you ever have the chance to see him live, do it, he was fantastic at his "Evening" tour at House of Blues last March.
