Regardless of position. Who are you taking? Larry? Jerry? Pistol Pete? Reggie Miller? Kennard Winchester Rifle? Connor Henry?
Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf had a nice shot (probably still does). Greatest ever is hard though, I haven't seen a lot of some of the candidates.
This dude shot about 500 guys and barely got a scratch! Oh, you mean basketball? In my time, I'd probably say Glen Rice...
I tend to favor only the high scorers who had to shoot quickly, on the move, and off balance. If you let them set to shoot, you're a fool. 70's Bob McAdoo 80's Larry Bird 90's Reggie Miller 00's Dirk Nowitzki with honorable mention to Drazen Petrovic as quite possibly the best of them all. #1 = Larry Bird
Yeah, Drazen could shoot it. I would've said Oscar Schmidt in my first post but I don't want to get this thread moved....
25 shots is nothing. Dino Radja tells a story watching Drazen Petrovic once hit 100 3s from the top of the key in 104 attempts. I can't find that link though. But here's what Rumeal Robinson saw: Rumeal Robinson,a teammate of Petrovic at the New Jersey Nets, remembers:" I watched him shooting 100 jump shots with a percentage of 89%, 66 of them in a row. I couldn't believe in my eyes and at the lockers he told me that he couldn't believe he lost 11 of these shots". meaning he thought he should have hit all 100 shots.
Bill Sharman was a legendary shooter though he was way before my time. EDIT: Chris Mullin deserves some mention too.
Drazen was awesome in the Portland series. Too bad he had to compete for minutes with Drexler and Porter.
hmmm... i'm surprised that ricky pierce isn't getting any love. that f'er could shoot the lights out against anybody. it's funny... the more minutes he played and the more shots he took... the higher that his fg% went, which the opposite usually happens (except for the tail end of his career). good player. ricky's stats edit again: oops... i saw the of all time. nevermind. he still was a dead-on shooter though.
For "pure" shooters, I assume that that means these guys can ONLY shoot and nothing much else. That should eliminate Bird. Reggie Miller should be one of the best, if not THE best. Petrovic is probably on the same level. Calvin Murphy, Mark Price, and Peja deserve to be mentioned. There are so many great shooters in NBA history, it's really hard to say who's the best.
I don't think anyone interprets pure shooter as someone that can only shoot well and nothing else. There are three that come to my mind. #1 Larry Bird - the greatest clutch shooter of all time #2 Dale Ellis - Letting him go to the Sonics is one of the biggest mistakes the Mavs ever made. I don't think he ever missed a shot against the Rockets. #3 Jeff Hornacek - Now here is a guy that made his living doing only one thing but damn that guy could shoot. Reggie Miller stands out today in my oppinion for 2 reasons. Because the league has a void of good outside shooters and because he hit some back breakers against the Knicks in the play-offs while jawing with Spike Lee. In the 80's he would not have been any better than Rolando Blackman.
