Ok so far we've managed to land the BIGGEST player in TMac. But the real reason because TMac wanted to play here because of Yao. So what the heck is going on here? Is CD sitting on his ass at the moment after landing big TMac? I mean we are about to lose Fisher if Rudy somehow sweet talk the boy. We;ve already lost Arroyo, Boozer, and Barry is going to be next? Seems like money is the main issue here not really TMac and Yao that make people want to come here. Is Houston a really bad place to live? Hows the crime rate? Ok now lets get back to who is really availabe and might want to play here. Let say we loses both Barry and Fisher, who do we have out there that Houston want and is available even for trade? I mean who's left on the Houston that is that valuable for trade bait? Houston have a really weak supporting casts and if we don't managed to grab anyone big by season start, we might be in trouble. I mean if you start losing games right from the start it will destroy the chemistry of TMac and Yao. CD need to make another big move and so far we are still waiting.
we will be adding a PG using 1 of 3 ways: TE, MLE, trade. after that, we will look for a backup center. then either make an extra move for cap relief or for an extra swingman. either way it won't be hard to find servicable players with what we have.
I am predicting that we will get Charlie Ward and have him platoon with Tyron Lue and will sign Menk Bateer to the league minimum . Yao- Bateer Howard- Mo T JJ, Griffen, Boki Tmac, Pike Lue, Ward * Isnt it scary that some people as recently as 3 days ago thought we were the BEST team in the league?
I didn't really say he's not doing anything. I'm just wondering how is he dealing this. I mean it wasn't really CD that really landed us TMac. Anyone could've make that decision. It was pretty much TMac that wanted to come here and no where else and so the decision was pretty easy. I or we haven't heard anyone anxiouosly wanting to come here when we landed TMac. I mean look at Barry, who so far seems to be leaning to stay or sign with someone else. It's more to do with money and I'm wondering if Houston is attractive to players.
LOL. Attractive? The 2nd best big man in all of basketball who is still improving and who loves to dish the ball. Naaaaaaaa, nobody wants to come here, especially not players that want to win.
I want Battie to backup Yao. Lets help the Cavs and at the same time easing a little bit the competition in the west.. TE for Battie.. after that, sign a PG (I like Hudson or Jones, 4get Fisher). Then we're set..
Well it seems to me CD is being more cautious about signing players after what happen with Cato, Rice and EG and whoever. If he or VG think we don't really need another big name player or salary and can get away with building hard nose role players, then fine but it won't be easy if it don't work. We sure do need a PG and someone who can shoot well and defend. I'm not too concern if we don't land some big name but it could happen during the season. But we do need a couple more players to fill the role playing before the season start to be successful. I don't think this team is that much better then last year team if you don't add some good players to help out Yao and TMac.
You're kind of contradicting yourself here. You wonder if no one wants to come to Houston, and yet you state the T-Mac, probably the 2nd most coveted player this offseason besides Kobe, would ONLY come here. Teams that were saving up for a Kobe or T-Mac caliber player now have the means to acquire second and third tier guys by tossing money at them. Look at Phoenix, for example. Sure, we might not get a Brent Barry or Derek Fisher this year. But what about next year? Those kind of guys are always available. But guys like T-Mac and Kobe won't be available again for the rest of their careers. Teams are going to have to wait for Yao and Lebron's contracts to come up before they have any chance of landing a superstar again.
Remember Houston won two championships until some big name like Barkley wanted to come and win one. Players arent going to risk anything until they see with their own eyes. TMac and Yao haven't prove anything yet for Houston. They haven't even play a game together yet and put a winning record. Money is where the heart is. It's not going to be easy for us to attract another big name since we already have TMac and Yao and I don't think another big name would really want to play in the shadow of two stars. Yes, only somoeone who really want to win and sacrifrice their game for Yao and TMac and I betcha alot of guy out there are still thinking it over.
exactly. I didnt want to say that, b/c i would of probably got bashed. DIdnt CD say sometihng like i didnt call, i let orlando call. What if orlando never called, CD would of probably just sat and did nothing. He needs to get off his but and get a pg and center. It is not to much to ask, but wait its CD.
That's exactly what I'm trying to get at. I don't think CD really know how to build a team and whoever is working for him isn't doing a good job of scouting players. I mean the Rockets been pretty lucky to land big name because of getting the the First overall draft pick. But building a team or scouting for players.... I mean a good GM know with his scouting crew should really know what they are doing but CD to me is more business then really recruiting a championship team. So far Houston been lucky to land Yao and TMac. Luck.
Considering we can't sign anyone until wednesday, we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, and it's been reported that we're aggressively pursuing the best FA point guard available, you guys are being awfully whiny. We're pursuing Brent Barry. McDyess and Keon Clark are still available. There are plenty of good bench players out there for us to pick up. Calm down. Notice that all the teams in the news right now are teams under the cap. Utah, Denver, Pheonix. We aren't under the cap. Geez. We didn't have a shot at Okur. We didn't have a shot at Nash. We didn't have a shot at Q. We didn't have a shot at Boozer. We didn't have a shot at Foyle. We didn't have a shot at Crawford. Wait and see what happens.
Yea, I'm tired of hearing all this "what the hell is CD doing", "why is he sitting on his hands." CRAP!!! No deals are getting done right now. It is all UNOFFICIAL until 7/14...which means anything can still happen. Besides, the Rox don't have to pick up a free agent. We have until September to make a trade w/ the trade exception. Plus everybody always whines that we have big contacts. Players that are rummored to "have a deal" (even though it isn't 7/14 yet), are signing for big money. We don't need big money contracts. We need role players. Nobody is going to agree to a small money contract in July. Those contracts will start to fall AFTER all the desperate teams have overpayed for their free agents. And if we get outbid. Fine. We'll make a trade before the season starts. Everybody...RELAX!!!!
No, "most" of those players aren't a good fit on this team. We need role players. BB is a perfect fit for this team and we are "in the running." What else do you want? Do you want to ensure we get him by offering another "dumb contract?"
I agree that we've given out really stupid contracts which has limited our personnel moves. However, it's not often you get someone as talented as TMac during an offseason. TMac alone has made this offseason the best in a long time. It may actually be good for us to sit this crazy free agent movement out. Some of the contracts are insane. People criticize CD for not making a move. However, if he did make a move and signed someone to an outrageous sum, people would get pissed too. It's better to be cautious than repeat some of the same mistakes we've made in the past. Teams that have given out large contracts have not experienced the salary cap stupidity that the Rockets have with Moochie, Mo Taylor, Cato, and now Weatherspoon, etc.... Utah, SA, Denver all made great decisions to free up the money they now have to spend. Now theyve started to gorge themselves. History will judge the wisdom of those moves. I'd rather do nothing than give a bloated contract to a mediocre player like Derek Fisher. For now it's better for us to stay cautious.
