I think on being athletic Francis has the edge..............well I think overall Francis is a better b-ball player than Calvin Murphy.

I don't think you can even compare them. They had a separate supporting cast and entirely different roles.

Yeah, interesting, 'cause it's hard to compare the two.

I think you give the nod to Francis as far as athleticism.
You have to give the nod to Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy for his ability to drain shots from anywhere on the court.
But I don't think he could create his own shot like Francis can.

Calvin could score. No doubt about it. He was a scoring machine.

And he could create his own shots...in fact that is all he did.

It's really hard to compare them because they played in different eras. Ours is one where guys try to make the highlight reels with jaw-dropping moves and athleticism. Calvin played in a time when it was...fundamentals. I'd still give the nod to SF though;)

As much as I like Calvin's game, I gotta give Steve the advantage.

The only thing Steve can do better is dunk. Steve is more athletic, Calvin was a better ball player.

It is indeed difficult to compare Steve and Calvin. I'm old enough to remember seeing Calvin in his prime, and what is important to remember, is that back then you couldn't carry the ball the way you can now. Calvin was an amazing dribbler. If they would have allowed Calvin to Carry the ball the way Stevie does, he would have been impossible to guard.

I don't know who is better between Calvin and Steve, but I think Calvin was more fun to watch play. It always seemed like Calvin was going about 100 mph. Calvin was the smallest and quickest guy in the league. Those of you who never got to see Calvin play really missed somthing.

Hey jev5555 and Just B let me ask you guys somthing. How can you judge whether Calvin or Francis is better when you weren't even alive when Calvin played.

You never saw calvin play. Maybe you've seen a few film clips if you're lucky, but there is no way you can really say who was better. And if you think that the stats tell the entire story you are very wrong. You guys crack me up.:D

To tell the truth, I just wanted to give Steve some votes to even it out (you know how many Steve haters there are here!:p )

Murphy averaged 17.9 ppg, 4.5 apg and 2.1 rpg.

Francis is currently at 20 ppg, 6.4 apg and 6.3 rpg.

How is Murphy the more complete player? If Murphy were 6'2", he would have been just another good player. Since he is 5'9", he is a hall of famer. The only advantage Murphy has over Francis is fg% and ft%.

    bobrek,

Murhpy took a while to get his chance, and then at the end of his career he came off the bench.

Francis was given an opportunity right away.

Calvin in his prime was better then Francis is right now, and HE WAS MONEY AT THE FREE THROW LINE.

Francis...well, he has a lot of money.

    :)

Correct if I am wrong, but the basketball hall of fame considers the college and pro career, and Calvin's college career got him inducted.
