Id like to thank the Rams for proving me right when I didnt jump on their bandwagon by proclaiming that they hadnt proven anything till a decent opponent comes around. Id say that K.C. is a decent team. ------------------ "I have amazing, powers of observation"...Pink
The same thing happened last year. The Rams met up with the Titans in the regular season and got their posteriors handed to them. It didn't stop them from putting together a 14-2 season and winning the Super Bowl. I'm not on the Rams bandwagon, either, but I don't think you can just write them off at this point. ------------------ Houston Sports Board DFW Sports Board
I don't want to sound like a poor sport by this comment, so don't take it that way. But IMO, I still haven't seen the Rams at full-strength beaten this season. They were down 27-14 at the half granted. But they have the talent to come back, and it kind of hurts when the NFL MVP isn't in there for your team. Like Paige said, last year the Rams were 6-0 and hit a bad 2 game stretch where they got beat by Tennessee and Detroit. Everyone was all over them and proclaiming them "short term wonders" then too. We all know the final result. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier police! Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Well, Warner's out for 4-6 weeks, so I guess we'll really see if he's that good, or it's just the system. On another note, the Houston Oilers played the entire game without their best player as well, and still won on the road against a better team than KC in the Ravens. You tell me who's looking good right now. ------------------ The Game Action forum has been overrun by idiots. The BBS Hangout is where it's at.
I guess the Rams were actually 13-3 last year rather than 14-2 like I said. Not that it matters, but I like to correct my mistakes. ------------------ Houston Sports Board DFW Sports Board
Are the Ravens really a better team than the Chiefs, though? Yes, the Ravens have a better record, but they've been lucking into wins. They haven't scored a touchdown in several weeks. That Ravens offense is horrible (so much so that Tony Banks finally got benched). Plus, the analogy isn't really the same since the Rams lost that game before Warner ever left the game. With or without the broken finger, the Rams were going to lose that game. Plus, once Warren Moon came in, there was no way for the Rams to come back. (Sorry, I'm still a homer for Warren Moon). ------------------ Houston Sports Board DFW Sports Board
mrpaige, you just made the Oilers look better by saying the Rams had already lost the game before Warner left. The Oilers beat Baltimore without George. Btw, doesn't Baltimore have the best defense in the NFL? ------------------ The Game Action forum has been overrun by idiots. The BBS Hangout is where it's at.
They're still a good defense. They held Tennessee to 14 points. If they had anything resembling an offense, they could've won that game (and some others). And if the Titans had scored only 14 points in all of their games, they'd be 2-5. No team goes undefeated. The Rams lost a game today. They will very likely lose at least one more game this year. The Titans will very likely lose at least one more game this year George or no George. I don't think the Titans look better because they lost their one game so far earlier in the season than the Rams did. Teams lose games. No one goes undefeated. If you're going to use the fact that the Titans won today and the Rams lost today as your basis for determining who is better, then your system is seriously flawed. When the Titans lose in a week that the Rams win, does that mean the Titans are no longer for real and the Rams are? ------------------ Houston Sports Board DFW Sports Board
Miami has the best defense in the NFL, and the Rams just got whupped by the Chiefs. This isn't the same team as last year. Last year the Rams got ahead, then crushed the opposing QB when the other team had to play catch up. This year they get ahead then need to keep scoring so they don't lose cause they can't stop the other team. And Warren Moon still throws the sweetest spiral in football. Titans vs Vikings in Tampa Bay? It could happen. ------------------ Who would've thought Don Nelson would pass up Olumide Oyedeji not once, not twice, but thrice?
1. The Rams were well on their way to a loss before Warner was hurt 2. I guess Trent Greens 15-21 for 205 and 3 touchdowns in the second half is much worse than Kurt Warner would of put up right? a. Ive always maintained that Green would prosper just as much as Warner in the Rams system. Remember he was their starter before the injury, and was producing big up until that point, and in his limited time he has gotten in. 3. The Rams had two of the easiest seasons schedule wise, of any team in NFL history (last year and this). Now Im not taking away from their superbowl win, but they didnt exactly dominate the Bucs, or the Titans by any stretch of the imagination last year. Or any decent team they played last year and this year. 4. Not to toot the horn of my favorite team, but the skins are missing a pro bowl calibre reciever in Westbrook, a pro bowl guard in Tre Johnson, two other starting offensive lineman, Another starting reciever, and Darrel Green. Thats a team decimated by injuries, and everyone was quick to write them off earlier. 5. Im not writing off the Rams. Im just saying that I was never impressed with them lighting up such horrible teams and getting lit on the defensive side right back. I wonder what NFL teams wouldnt be 6-0 with a schedule that has them playing opponents with a combined winning percentage of .390 for a season Actually its lower when you take this years actual opponents schedule. 6. No the Saints have the number one D...by far. Number two is the Skins. 7. Who else is stoked about next Monday nights game. Titans, Skins. Two similar teams. Great D, power running game. Personally I believe that without the injuries the skins have that they would win this game. But with all of them, they might lose to a team like the Titans. ------------------ "I have amazing, powers of observation"...Pink

Dreamshake You stated the following: "7. Who else is stoked about next Monday nights game. Titans, Skins. Two similar teams. Great D, power running game. Personally I believe that without the injuries the skins have that they would win this game. But with all of them, they might lose to a team like the Titans." Well I have to jump in and clarify something. The Titans are playing with their share of injuries as well. Playing without Kevin Dyson, Carl Pickens and Eddie George is a knock-on-wood, hope-it-never-happens scenario the Titans lived yesterday. Four interceptions, five sacks and no plays of over 27 yards allowed for a defense that just wasn't going to let QB Tony Banks be productive. The secondary's work was good, especially with starting CB Samari Rolle (ankle) on the bench in street clothes. Despite scoring one offensive touchdown and finishing with just 191 total yards, it was a scenario they turned into a 14-6 victory by outlasting the Ravens in a slugfest. Also keep in mind that for the majority of the season we have been playing without Yancy Thigpen as well. We have also lost Michael Roan (torn acl), one our starting tight ends for the year (during the first game of the season). For a team that relies heavily on two tight end sets, that was a big loss. We also lost one of our starting corners in Donald Mitchell (torn acl) for the year in training camp. Bruce Matthews and Brad Hopkins, starting offensive lineman have also missed playing time this season. With all of the injuries the Titans have faced. I am amazed they keep finding ways to win. To me that is a sign of a quality football team. I don't care if they are not getting the publicity like the Rams and Vikings. So they do not win pretty by scoring 40+ points a game. The bottom line is they keep winning. Now, will they be able to keep defying the odds. I don't know. Losing Eddie George for any extended period will be devasting to the Titans. He will have an MRI this morning so I am just keeping my fingers crossed that it is nothing serious. Titans all the way to Tampa Bay! PS - By the way I am also stoked about the Skins/Titans Monday night game. It should be a GREAT game! May be a preview of the Superbowl! ------------------ Titan's fanatic!!!! It was the first time the Titans sent an offense to the line of scrimmage with Eddie George in the backfield behind McNair to go with Wycheck at tight end and Carl Pickens, Kevin Dyson and Yancey Thigpen at wide receiver. So many choices, with a full season still ahead. "I think that might be scary for a defense," Dyson said.
I think Francis3 thinks that Tampa's still undefeated. I don't think he can stomach the fact that they are one of the most overrated teams in NFL history. The reason I love the NFL is because of days like yesterday. The Bengals and Dillon beat the Broncos. Bills vs. Vikings was an amazing game, as was Patriots v. Colts. Of course the Chiefs upset was huge. Basically, on any given week, and almost any given team, you're going to get 4 or 5 really, really good games. My midseason picks? Raiders v. Vikings. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of yourself and umption. visit www.swirve.com
Washinton's D is not for real, it has been padded by playing the Giants, Buccs, Boys, Iggles, and Ravens, among others. Besides, except for Davis, who no longer look to be 1 hit wonder, the O ain't there. The Skins are no contender. Rams and Vikes are the class of the NFC. They both have great offenses, this year it looks like Minn has the average D to go with the O, where the Rams have an abismal D with their O, exact reverse of last year. Titans look tough despite their injuries. If they were healthy they would give Butt A. his dirty title. Even with their injuries, they have a good chance. The Colts will be in the mix. They have trouble with physical teams (Titans, Raiders), but if they get the right draw (someone else knocks out the Titans) they could win it all. I guess I say Colts over Vikes, not because the Colts are better than the Vikes (though the Colts will play well with more finese teams like the Vikes or Rams), but because when the going gets tough, the Vikes fold. Besides, Red McCombs sucks and like Butt shouldn't get a title.
Ok, I just checked. Pickens is due back for Washington and Yancey Thigpen has been back. Eddie George is more than likely going to play. Samari Rolle is expected to play also. I thought Bruce Matthews was continuing his consecutive game streak, so has he missed any games? Now The Redskins are without 1. Darrel Green (the myth, the legend) 2. Tre Johnson (pro bowl Guard) 3. Michael Westbrook (Pro bowl alternate WR) 4. Keith Simms (former pro bowler at G) 5. Corey Raymer (their team captain at C) 6. Shawn Barber more than likely (their fast playmaking LB) 7. Irving Fryar may play, but its unlikely. (the number 2 reciever) 8. Andy Heck maybe, probably could play (their backup T, G ) Now that is an offense and team that is totally decimated by injuries. Not that Im making excuses for a possible loss, but Can anyone see a good reason for losing to a solid team like the Titans? Which wont happen anyways. Desert Scar...Lets clarify some things. The Cowboys are averaging 25 points per game. One of the best. Up their with Minnesota. The Eagles are averaging 23 points per game. Upper third in the league. The Giants before the skins game were averaging 200 yards rushing. The Bucs well their still the Bucs on O. And the Ravens do suck on O. But Jacksonville had the two by far most leathal recievers in the NFL (came into the game with both around or above 50 catches. And Fred Taylor is as talented a back in the league. Plus let me add that without losses to the skins... The Giants would be 5-1 The Eagles would be 5-2 The Bucs would be 3-3 Ravens would be 5-2 The boys would be 3-3. Carolina would still suck And Jax would be still a bad team. at 2-5 Looks like some pretty solid teams there to me. Lets not forget also that the skins have also played if you count the upcoming Titans game 5 of the top 10 defenses in the NFL (not counting their own spot) in the Eagles, Bucs, Giants, Baltimore, and the Titans. And havent faced a team with a D in the bottom half of defenses. ------------------ "I have amazing, powers of observation"...Pink [This message has been edited by Dreamshake (edited October 24, 2000).]
I recognize the numbers, but I am not convinced the NFC east has any offense, with Washington probably having the best of the bunch because of Davis. These teams mainly have scored on each other, which suggests they don't play defense any more in that division like they used to. Besides, those offense stats (also based on only a couple of games) are really skewed based on a couple of Cowboy games (versus Phily, Arizona). I am a Cowboys fan and admit they have a pretty bad offense and defense. Besides, Phily outplayed the Skins and so did the Buccs, while the Panthers and Giants were close too. Boneheaded (versus forced by Wash) turnovers allowed the Skins to squeak many of those games out. Jacksonville has just been continuing what a 4 game skid. That is not an impressive list of performances when you compare them to the Rams or Vikings, which is what I was saying (the Skins are not in their league). Washington however right now does look to be a rather solid--but very distant--3rd place team in the thin NFC. The Titans at one point didn't have their QB nor their top3 receivers yet have really handled some awefully good AFC competition (the far better and deeper conference after the top 2 teams). The Titans have impressed me, and with Dyson (who isn't returning this year) and a healthy team, top-to-bottom they looked like the class of both leagues. But missing Dyson, like the Skins missing Westbrook, is a huge blow to super bowl aspirations. It would be the same if the Vikes lost Moss, Rams-Bruce, Colts-Harrison, except the Titans might just have good enough other receivers to compensate, and besides, are the best ball control team of the bunch. As for the other missing Skins, Johnson is the only other major factor. Certainly losing Green, who couldn’t even hold on to a starting job when healthy, and Fryar, who should have retired about 5 years ago, are non-factors. Given the game is at Washington, I do think it will be a hell of a game. I’ll have to route for Butt’s team in that one. I hope it is a good fat fry in front of Danieleta Snyder.
