Hope that post didn't sound like I didnt respect the question. Its just that these guys talents are so evenly matched I really don't see one guy as having one defining advantage over the other. It could be argued that Kobe has been there, that he has prevailed on a higher stage, has had to make more critical decisions, and faced more pressure and has the experience, and that could give him the edge right now. But talent, one on one street game, I don't know, flip a coin, thats a pick 'em.
I would have to say Tmac is more talented ... meaning physical gifts and overall play but for some reason I still have to say Kobe is the better player. Championships do make a big difference in that remember when when Dominque was being compared to Jordan (both during their early years) but now alot of new fans dont even know who he is. Winning and making your team/organization better has a big impact. J
I would say Kobe only because he has the rings. We'll see now that TMac has the center and Kobe is trying to win as a one-man show. After a season, or two, we will finally be able to say who is better, I think.
there wouldnt even by a poll like this on the laker board, they're too busy over there comparing kobe to larry bird. i think kobe at this point is the better player, but i believe t-mac has the potential in the next 2-3 years to become not just a better player but hands down the better player between the two. i swear some of these kobe fans believe that we need to kiss kobe's feet for picking up a basketball when he was a little kid. he is good, if not great but is not the best
It seems to me that Kobe has a stronger will, so I'm giving him the edge. If Kobe played on that Orlando team, would he have allowed them to lose so many games? My guess is no.
I refuse to vote yet. I am fairly confident in saying Tmac and Kobe are the best guards in the league, and the 4th and 5th best overall players, but honestly I don't think anyone knows for sure who is better between them. Kobe has never HAD to lead a team, and Tmac has never had a stud to play with in his prime. Thus I think maybe I'll have a good handle on this question by next offseason after their roles have switched.
for now I'd have to go with Kobe. I can't stand the Lakers or Kobe but he is a better all-around player. more complete on both ends of the court. maybe with JVG's tutelage T-Mac might be able to get on the same level as Kobe on the defensive side. on offence he does have an edge but what really seperates them is the D. T-Mac has all the tools to be a great defender. but does he have the will?
